Gingivitis is a very common dental problem. In fact, gingivitis affects about 90% of all adults at one time or another. Gingivitis can cause bad breath, bleeding gums and mouth pain, and if left unchecked can eventually lead to serious periodontal disease. Once gingivitis has led to periodontal disease, victims are at risk of tooth loss and even heart disease.
Gingivitis, quite simply, is a non-serious form of gum disease. It is mild, or non-serious in its early stages but can lead to more serious periodontal disease. Gingivitis has been known to cause swelling of the gums, but in many cases it is so mild that Gingivitis can be totally unperceived by you.
Perhaps the most common and most dreaded symptom of gingivitis is halitosis or bad breath. Bad breath can be quite embarrassing. It is typically brought on because you have excess bacteria in your mouth. This bacteria not only negatively affects your gums, but it also leads to the bad breath that you may start to notice.
it is serious as it can lead to tooth loss, and nobody wants to lose their teeth. Fortunately, there are natural treatments for gingivitis that work very well. We’re going to cover some of them in this article after a brief overview of just what gingivitis is, for those who don’t watch a lot of toothpaste commercials.
Another symptom of gingivitis is bleeding gums. If your gums bleed when you brush or floss your teeth, but you have no pain, you have gingivitis in its early stages. Pain or swelling of the gums, along with the bleeding almost certainly means you have gingivitis in a more serious state.
Causes of Gingivitis The main cause of Gingivitis is Plaque. Plaque, not the award given to someone, is an invisible, sticky film, composed primarily of bacteria, that forms on your teeth when starches and sugars in food interact with bacteria normally found in your mouth.
People with even mild gingivitis, therefore, are searching for a cure. And, though gingivitis is something that you’ll always have to keep on top of, you can certainly get it under control and eliminate your symptoms. Your mouth can be healthier than it has been in years. And, luckily, the steps to treating gingivitis are pretty simple.
Is there a gingivitis cure that you can use at home to get relief from the pain and bleeding caused by this widespread disease? As much as 80% of the adult population in the US has some occurrence of gingivitis, according to estimates by dental professionals.
Get Rid of Gingivitis:
1. CoQ10 – This is a supplement that you can easily get that is an antioxidant so prevents free radicals from building up in your body including your mouth.
2. Folic Acid – This is highly effective against gum disease. You can find it in pill form.
3. Vitamins C & E – These are both helpful in supporting your dental health
Symptoms:
1- Bad mouth taste.
2-Foul breath.
3-Mouth sores
4-Change in the color from healthy pink to bright-red, or purple gums.
5-Shiny look to gum.

QUESTION:
How do you get rid of gingivitis?
What are the symptoms of gingivitis (gum disease) and how can you get rid of it?-
ANSWER:
Symptoms you would notice are red areas on the gums around the teeth, soreness of the gums and bleeding gums. You may also notice a foul taste or continual bad breath. The Dentist or Hygienist may notice loss of attachment of the gums to the tooth.
Easiest way to get rid of gum disease is to not get it in the first place. Regular brushing after meals and flossing avoid and eliminate most gum disease in its early stages. As gum disease progresses there are other procedures that can be done by your Dentist or Hygienist to help you control the disease.Dr. Dan

QUESTION:
the effects of gingivitis in cats if left untreated?
my cat’s six years old.
he has symptoms for gingivitis. (bad breath, drooling, bleeding from the gums)
i can’t take him to the vet, because i can’t drive yet.
and my parents don’t have the money.
what will happen to my cat if his disease is left untreated?
and if i find the money to get him to the vet, what will they do?-
ANSWER:
Yes he will be in pain, very much so. His gums will be like chopped meat, sore, infected with puss oozing out, he will not want to eat much and be hungry. His health will slowly go down hill. If not treated and teeth removed the infection will spread and yes it can kill him. He will get sinus infections and that will rot away any membrane that there is in the sinus cavity. The infection can spread to other parts of the body as well. The teeth will have to be removed and he will have to be placed on an antibiotic for about 2 weeks or more to help clear up the infection and a shot of steroids to help with swelling. This is a serious problem your cat has. The sooner you can have it take care of the better for the cat.

Symptoms of GINGIVITIS?
I was told last year that I have a little bit of gingivitis but it wasnt treated or anything….
I have a soft spot of my back molar gums HELP!!-
ANSWER:
The symptoms of gum disease include:* Gums that bleed during and after tooth brushing
* Red, swollen, or tender gums
* Persistent bad breath or bad taste in the mouth
* Receding gums
* Formation of deep pockets between teeth and gums
* Loose or shifting teeth
* Changes in the way teeth fit together upon biting down, or in the fit of partial dentures.Even if you don’t notice any symptoms, you may still have some degree of gum disease. In some people, gum disease may affect only certain teeth, such as the molars. Only a dentist or a periodontist can recognize and determine the progression of gum disease.

QUESTION:
Is it possible for an infant to have gingivitis?
My daughter (15 months old) has halitosis and bleeding gums and tonight I noticed that the gum over one of her front teeth is pulled back and that her gums are red. I read that these symptoms are associated with gingivitis. Isn’t she a little young to have this disease?
She just got over being very sick with a virus and has been to the doctor twice in the last week. When I called the doctor yesterday and told them of these new symptoms, they told me that she is just teething and to put orajel on her gums. Is bad breath ever associate with teething? She has a doctor’s appointment again on Monday for a check up…I’ll bring all of this up with them, I just wondered if gingivitis is a possible diagnosis.-
ANSWER:
“Gingivitis” is simply any infection of the gums and she COULD have it. She may have had a little cut or an abcess from an incoming tooth that got infected. Odor indicates infection. Have her seen by a doctor ASAP as an untreated infection can migrate to her heart muscle or damage her permanent teeth. If she goes to bed with milk in a bottle, it can cause tooth and gum disease.

QUESTION:
What is the difference between Periodontal Disease and Gingivitis?
About 5 or 6 months ago, I went to the dentist because my gums had started bleeding. As I brush my teeth twice a day and always at least rinse with water, I was just told to brush my gums more, or floss or use mouthwash. The symptoms went away, but now the bleeding is back (mainly when I floss) and 2 days ago I noticed my gum in between my two front teeth had swelled and was slightly red. Since yesterday, I have noticed another area of gum swelling and thin redness around about 3 or 4 more teeth. I don’t understand as it has all happened so quick. I am worried. If it is only Gingivitis then what stage does it sound like? Also, my dentist appointment is 5 days away. I have went to get Corsodyl mouthwash to try and last me until then and have just started my first treatment. I can make an emergency appointment, but I don’t know how necessary and appropriate it would be as I don’t really know how bad it is…any advice?-
ANSWER:
Approximately 90 per cent of the adult people are affected by gingivitis. Most of these people remain oblivious about the silent development of gingivitis as it is initially painless. By and by, gingivitis can cause serious health implications. There can be swollen gums and bleeding while eating or brushing. If left unattended, gingivitis can even lead to indigestion and other tummy problems. Gingivitis can aggravate to periodontitis or pyorrhea. This is an extreme infectious situation when the teeth supporting bone starts eroding. Blisters can also appear. Pyorrhea signs are bad breath, painful gums and bleeding. The primary reasons of pyorrhea are excessive alcohol, smoking, poor mouth hygiene, poor nutrition, improper brushing, glandular disorders, chronic illness, and blood ailments. Smokers are more prone to develop pyorrhea and lose teeth than others. Note that bleeding gums can also be caused by brushing too hard or by using too hard a toothbrush.

QUESTION:
do i have symptoms or do i already have gingivitis?
so 2 months ago i stopped my coffee and coke drinking and went to water and juices. two weeks ago i saw 3 red dots on my lower right side gums and i thought it was gingivitis so i started brushing 2-3 times a day and Listerine mouth wash also flossing everynight and those dots went away. now i have bleeding gums on my left up and down gum and my k-9 tooth(sharp tooth that people have) i can see more of the tooth cause the gums are going up. and on the bottom the gums are going down on 1 tooth. am i brushing to much or something ? :c i really dont want to loose my teeth and i have to call my dentist monday cause there closed fri-sun :/!! will it get worse before better? should i just brush twice a day and listerine twice and flossing everynight?-
ANSWER:
You need a brush for your gums and to keep the food out from between your teeth. My dental hygienist gave me a toothpaste with more fluoride to make sure I did not get cavities near the gum line and a little brush to clean between my teeth. Keep brushing your gums away from them (up toward the teeth), and warm salt water may be a help also.

QUESTION:
Might I have Gingivitis?
I honestly brush my teeth all the time. I used to only do it a few times a week, But the past few months, I’ve been brushing 2 times a day. However, Just recently is when this possible Gingivitis symptom appeared. Anyway, On my lower jaw, In between two teeth, There is a piece of gum that I can flap back and forth. And it looks brownish at the root. How can I prevent this? I already brush, Floss, And use mouthwash daily. What else can I do?-
ANSWER:
You need to treat the gums with a mixture of Neem Oil and Neem Bark twice per day. This will heal any issues like you are describing within days. Then improve your digestion because this is the “root cause” of many dental problems like this. Primitive people did NOT get cavities or plaque build up on their teeth for good reason. Their diet consisted of highly mineralized foods and NO refined sugar, hydrogenated oils, partially hydrogenated oils, fried foods, high carbohydrate consumption, high fructose corn syrup, preservatives, and chemicals. And yes, they did NOT have flouride toothpastes either. The best Neem products I’ve ever found are at: (800) 370 – 3447. They will ship to you and they are NOT expensive.
good luck to you

QUESTION:
This isn’t gingivitis right?
i dont keep up with flossing normally usually just once a week.
but recently ive started flossing every night.
except that one part of my teeth on the top right, bleeds when i floss.
but otherwise its fine everywhere else.
also i have braces and i just had 4 teeth pulled a few months ago and the gaps closed up (the spot where it bleeds is where one of the gaps were if it has something to do with it)anyways, i dont know if this is just from not flossing enough but i really hope its not gingivitis since i know gingivitis has symptoms of bleeding gums. but my gums dont bleed when i brush so its not that bad. its only that one area. should i go to my dentist?
-
ANSWER:
No this isn’t gingivitus. I have had it before. I used to not brush my teeth for 3 days or so. Then brush constantly. Then my gums bled a lot. You may want to go to the dentist for a check up though.

QUESTION:
infected wisdom teeth extracted 3 days ago now suddenly showing signs of gingivitis?
I’m desperate for a peace of mind! I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth extracted on Saturday morning. I suffered excruciating pain from thurs-sat and knew there was an infection when i started developing lesions on my hard palate on the left side and lesions on my tongue. The top and bottom left wisdom teeth were infected, however both top ones were partially emerged and both bottom ones were fully covered by jawbone so they decided to remove all four at once. Needless to say i am significantly swollen and bruised, more so on the infected side. I am taking penicillin but seeing NO improvement in the infection. The flap of gum that was previously covering my lower left wisdom tooth is now covering my lower left molar. The lesion on the palate is painful as ever, extending from the empty area where the wisdom tooth once sat to the tooth second to my front! I am continuing to develop painful lesions on my tongue. And NOW, I have suddenly developed gingivitis/peritonitis symptoms! Painful to brush my teeth/gums, super swollen gums over alll my teeth, bleeding when i brush any teeth/gums (though i fight through the pain and still do, hoping the good hygiene will be worth the pain). DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHAT THIS COULD BE A RESULT OF? please, please,help..p.s: i am taking tylenol w/ codeine 3 for pain, ibuprofen for inflammation, penicillin for infection.
also rinsing A LOT with water and table salt and also a sage/sea salt home remedy mixture. also topical arnica for the severe bruising. this has been a NIGHTMARE-

QUESTION:
gingivitis or periodontal disease?
I am 25 years old, and have always had pretty good hygiene. I slacked on the flossing, and haven’t been for a teeth cleaning in a year because I moved and just got kind of side tracked and didn’t really think about it. However, I brush my teeth about 2/3 times a day, and despite my lack of flossing, I’ve never even had a cavity! My gums sometimes bleed bad when I brush my teeth. I get left with the yucky taste of blood in my mouth after I brush, and sometimes when I wake up in the morning, that’s what my mouth tastes like. I started using Crest Pro Health mouthwash to reduce the effects of gingivitis, but I am scared that it has developed into periodontal disease without me even realizing it! It sounds like the symptoms of gingivitis and periodontal disease are the same, and I have no idea how to determine if I’m at a beginning stage of gingivitis or a later stage of periodontal disease! I started flossing twice a day now, and rinse with hydrogen peroxide/water, salt water, and mouth wash every time I brush, and my gums still bleed! I’ve read that rinsing w/ hydrogen peroxide can cure both gingivitis and periodontal disease. Is it true? I don’t know what “pockets” look like, and whenever I google search images, gross pictures pop up.. and that’s not how my teeth look so I can’t compare. I made an apt to go to the dentist, but until then I am freaking out because like I said, I’ve always had pretty good hygiene and I’m too young to lose my teeth!-
ANSWER:
Gingivitis is the first stage of periodontal (or gum) disease. You’re not in any late stages of it, your teeth would be loose.
The pockets are not visible to the eye (for the most part), they have to be measured by a dentist.
Stop freaking out, I am suffering with the beginning stages of gum disease (I’m only 29) and I neglected my teeth pretty bad, I now wish that I had plucked up the courage to go in much much earlier and started treatment.
It can be treated and you are no where near loosing your teeth.Just take a deep breath and relax.

QUESTION:
gingivitis or just scraped gums?!?
well im not sure if i have it or not but the symptoms for gingivitis or just scraped gums but i have are… a little redness, not swollen, hurts when i apply pressure, stings when i brush it, doesnt bleed, well im not pretty sure if i have gingivitis or not but..
what should i do for the time being? should i brush my gums or not? i cant go to the dentist because he is on vacation…
plz i want serious answers, if u cant plz dont answer. thanks-
ANSWER:
Gingivitis is just what happens when you don’t clean your teeth right.
What do you mean brush your gums? You probably shouldn’t try to brush your gums themselves, but you shouldn’t avoid them because then you’ll miss brushing part of your teeth. You should also probably start flossing. I never used to floss but then they came out with those little flossing stick things.. (you know, these: http://www.chinawholesalepromo.com/files/upfile_03/Health—Beauty-Department_Health-Care-Products_Dental-Floss-Stick_OEM20116603.jpg ) and it’s way easier, so I do it like every day. You can find them pretty much anywhere. It’ll probably hurt the first few days but it will start helping the problem right away, so your gums will start getting better. The goal you should aim for is to just get your teeth clean, that’s what will fix your problem.

you have a minor case of it
dont worry
most people do have it or get it before their 20, it’s nothing to worry about now because it’s minor and it’s easy to reverse
i know it’s gonna sound like product placement, but you need to brush, floss, and use listerine twice a day, if you don’t like listerine’s burn, crest makes an alcohol free rinse that also works

QUESTION:
What to do when vet says cat has tarter and gingivitis?
So I just took my new cat to the vet for the first time (for me taking her), and she got a healthy report, except for the teeth. I just looked up the symptoms for gingivitis, she doesn’t have any of those, so, I guessing it’s not bad or anything yet. It costs too much to get a teeth cleaning, money I don’t have, as I’m a college student. Is there anything I can do to make sure it doesn’t get worse, and to possibly make it go away?
I got 30day pet insurance, courtesy from SPCA, which will help if the vet can accept it. If not, I’m going to try to figure something out, like find another vet who’ll do it cheaper, as 280 sounds like too much for a tooth cleaning, its not even major surgery.I wanted advice, not people telling me to get rid of her, as I will figure out whatever I need to do, and a way to do it.
-
ANSWER:
Eventually you’re going to need a cleaning and maybe having teeth pulled. We have had some cats have their teeth pulled. They get over it and eat a lot better. Think if you had a cavity how much you’d eat.So, try dry food. Brush their teeth, there is a cat toothpaste and brush. That is SOOOOO much fun. Depending on the cat.
They will knock the cat out to clean teeth, so its not a trivial vet visit. Like always, talk to your vet, if need be call the office, leave a question have them call back. One way to save money.

What is the best toothpaste for sensitive teeth?
My teeth have become very sensitive to hot and cold and Iv got really bad toothache. Iv looked my symptoms up online and I may have gingivitis so I also need to know of a good mouthwash/floss to use? Thank you
What about mouthwash for gingivitis?-
ANSWER:
The only way you can be sure of what the problem is is by visiting your dentist. There may be a cavity somewhere in a tooth or it could be something like gingivitis – you can’t really get a good idea reading something! In the meantime, try a sensitive toothpaste such as Sensodyne or the like. Most brands do a sensitive formula and shop own ones can be worth a try. Also, Corsodyl mouthwash is worth a try as well. As for floss, any floss. But see your dentist – they will be able to correctly tell you what the prob is and get it sorted out.

QUESTION:
Gingivitis? Periodontal disease? Absess? which one is it?
I’ve had swollen gums where my 2nd molars are for the past week. At first I ignored the swelling, thinking it was because of the unhealthy diet I was having that week, but a week later the swelling hasnt disappeared. The swollen gums are starting to hurt when i eat and I try to avoid using that part of my mouth altogether now. I’ve tried looking for more information as to what could be the possible cause and Ive come across: Gingivitis, Periodontal disease, absess or wisdom teeth. Im unsure as to which one it is since the symptoms for all of them seem to be so similar. My symptoms are: swollen gums, pain, i think puss coming out now (gross..i know). I do brush twice a day and occasionally use mouthwash.I’m afraid to go to the dentist because of bad childhood experiences. So any suggestions or reassurance that the dentist isnt so bad, would be great. Thanks!
-
ANSWER:
Hi there! the only way somebody (a dental professional) can give you a diagnosis is simply with the help of X-rays (periapical & bitewings), gingivitis is a periodontal disease and could cause an absess but so can do a deep cavity that envolve a dental nerve, with the x-ray is easy to determine what is the exact origin of the infeccion. I don’t know your age, but if you are around 17 or 21 year old with the same X-ray the dentist can tell you if the 3rd molar is the cause. So don’t be afraid go to the dentist, he or she will help you.
you wrote you brush twice a day and sometimes use mouthwash, what about flossing? Good Luck!

I had faintness/dizziness sometimes when I was cleaning but I would sit back and relax right away and had no problems then. I was very emotional and a lot of stuff got on my nerves. I smelled everything double as much, which was sometimes really horrible! I had bleeding gums and heartburn really bad throughout my pregnancy. Other then that my pregnancy was fine.Good luck to you to, if this is your first…your going to love being a mommy

QUESTION:
what about gingivitis?
i think i have gingivits…i dont have all the symptoms but one is enough to comfirm the disease…my gums have retreated…are they destroyed once and for all?i mean if the gingivitis doesnt turn to periodontitis is it reversible?-
ANSWER:
yet gingivitis is both preventable and treatable. Although factors such as medications and lowered immunity make you more susceptible to gingivitis, the most common cause is poor oral hygiene. Daily brushing and flossing and regular professional cleanings can significantly reduce your risk of developing this potentially serious condition. If you already have gingivitis, professional cleaning can reverse the damage.Gingivitis usually clears up after a professional cleaning as long as you continue to follow a program of good oral hygiene at home. At first your gums may bleed after brushing, but this usually lasts just a few days. If you persist, you should see pink, healthy gum tissue in a short time. You’ll need to practice good oral hygiene for life, however, so your gum problems don’t return. Because misaligned teeth and poorly fitting crowns and bridges make it harder to remove plaque, your dentist may recommend fixing these problems as well.

QUESTION:
My 1 yr. old cat has symptoms related to FIV. Does this mean she is in the last stage of her life ?
I took her to the vet recently and he said she had severe gingivitis in mouth and yeast in the ears probably related to FIV. I adopted her from the SPCA recently. Before that, she was a stray. I understand there are 3 stages of FIV. If she has these symptoms, does it mean she is in the final stage though she is only 1 yr. old? She acts healthy otherwise. I have been giving her the antibiotics and ear drops he prescribed, but I believe this is only a temporary solution as it only treats the symtoms. She was examined prior to adoption and the fiv results came out negative. However, the vet said that those tests given at the spca may not be conclusive. Two concerns…is she in the last stage this early in life? I had read that the latency stage can last several years. Do some cats bypass that stage and go right into the final stage? Also, am I looking at chronic medical problems throughout her life? I love this cat, but I just need to know what I’m up against. Thanks
I had two vets check her out. The first said she had some sort of polyp/infection in ear. Also suggested lysene for gingivitis. Took her for a 2nd opinion. The 2nd vet said yeast in ears (bad odor) and severe gingivitis. They had to express her anal glands as well as they were full. He speculated the infections were due to fiv but did no test to confirm this. Maybe it is something different. Thanks to all the responses. They are very helpful.-
ANSWER:
First thing you should do is get your cat retested. It is possible for FIV to be dormant, and test negative after first contracting the disease. If she was found as a stray, and soon tested then it is possible it was too soon for the virus to register. It can take 8-12 weeks for FIV to register.
If your cat does have FIV then it sounds like her condition is in stage 3 and she therefore has feline AIDS.I do have a few doubts about her having FIV, though. For one, it usually takes a long time to reach stage 3, often years. She came from an animal shelter where animals are more susceptible to disease due to closed in spaces. Her immune system was also probably compromised due to being a stray and not getting adequate nutrition.
Test her again for FIV. If it is negative then treat her ailments and hope for a long, happy life. If it is positive keep her comfortable, away from other cats, and enjoy the time you’ll have with her.

QUESTION:
Do I have gingivitis or periodontitis?
A few months ago I noticed that my gums were red, but I didn’t think anything about, a few days ago I looked at them and thought that I should schedule a dentist appointment. The only symptoms I have is red gums, but they are only red around the outline of my teeth the rest of my gums are pink. And my teeth aren’t loose and they seem to be perfectly placed in my gums.-
ANSWER:
Usually with gingivitis or periodontitis, bleeding occurs as well. If you have red gingival margins with no inflammation, bleeding, or pain, it might be a vitamin deficiency. Try a multivitamin if this is the case.

QUESTION:
there’s a lump above my tooth, is it an infection or gingivitis?
my teeth/gums just started hurting earlier this week. i have had this lump on my gums above a tooth i had a filling put on a few years ago for at least a year. my dentist told me a couple months ago that i have early stages of gingivitis but i don’t have any symptoms so i am wondering if the pain i have is because of that one tooth. i’ve been using listerine mouthwash and rinsing with salt water for the pain but it doesn’t seem to be working. at my last visit my dentist didn’t want to pull it yet because they are fitting me for a partial retainer. will urgent care prescribe antibiotics for it or do i need to have it pulled by the dentist?-
ANSWER:
Get a second opinion. This sounds more like an abscess. They are becoming increasingly common these days. But, I’m not a dentist, just someone who has had some dental work done. Still, you might want to get a second opinion.

QUESTION:
How to get rid of gingivitis?
I had gingivitis for a very long time. I noticed it 2 days ago when I realized purple inflamed gums aren’t normal. As other people have pink gums. It’s like everywhere on my gums is purple and a slight red and they are very big. How I also noticed gingivitis is when I spot plaque from down my teeth to the gums. It’s like yellow stained deep in my teeth and it won’t come off. And how I also found out is when I floss my gums hurt alot and bleed. I rarely had the gums bleeding brushing teeth problem. Only the floss. I rarely floss because I don’t see what’s the point of it.I heard gingivitis causes heart attacks and strokes and Im really scared because I realized I had it for a very long time without knowing I had it. I have the symptoms too. Plz help. Will flossing get rid of gingivitis? Because I don’t floss.
-
ANSWER:
First go to the dentist and get your teeth cleaned. There is no substitute for a professional cleaning. While you don’t see a point to flossing, there is one. Flossing cleans in-between teeth where your toothbrush can’t go. Additionally, you can try an antiseptic mouth rinse.

QUESTION:
Gingivitis?
The last time I went to the dentist, they told me that I was beginning to have signs of gingivitis. I always brush twice a day and use mouthwash usually once a day. They told me not flossing was the problem. I’m a little worried because I’m going back to see the dentist on Thursday and I don’t want to go in there and get yelled at again. I’ve been flossing whenever I remember (it’s hard to remember when you haven’t been brought up with that habit), but I’d kind of like to be prepared for an angry lecture or not. My gums don’t bleed when I floss anymore. The only symptoms I had last time was bleeding when flossing. Can anyone give any other symptoms or suggestions for making sure I don’t have gingivitis? I’ve looked at pictures, but all I’ve really been able to find is very badly onset gingivitis, which doesn’t help except to terrify me. The area where the gums cover my teeth is a lighter shade of pink than the area that surrounds that area… is that bad?
I think I saw the dentist six months ago… should the gingivitis have gone away since then?…and the dentist didn’t “yell” yell at me…it was mainly the dental assistant… and she acted as though I didn’t deserve to have teeth.
-
ANSWER:
Years ago, when they used to sell horses, they’d look at their teeth to see how healthy they were, hence the saying “don’t look a gift horse in the mouth”. One can tell a person’s overall health by what goes on in the mouth. That being said, you can ask yourself what your diet is like? Is it rich in vitamin C? How about other valuable nutrients? You need to take in healthy foods like fruits and vegetables. I get this feeling you may be going too high on the sugars and other artificial stuff, and poor food choices.
Eating healthy may not totally cure your gingivitis, but I bet it would reduce it considering that bacteria seems to thrive where there is a poor diet, and a better diet will build up your body enough to fight it off.

QUESTION:
I have almost all the symptoms of early pregnancy but a negative test.?
I want to know should I go to the doctor or am I just worrying to much. I have been feeling nauseous, dizzy, I get head aches often have had less hair falling out (I searched pregnancy symptoms even weird ones) I have had darker hair on my legs and my stumach, I usually don’t get pms of any kind of cramps but lately I have been snaping at everyone that even looks at me the wrong way and I am normally a very nice person, and I was suposed to get my period the last week of november, today I has some spotting that only happend this morning and never again throughout the rest of the day. I also had really bad cramps yesterday and today. I even have gingivitis which I did not think was a symptom until I searched wierd ones and found it could mean that I am going to have a miscarriage or a pre mature birth though I could have a gum desease I doubt it because I floss daily and brush my teeth three times a day and use mouth wash. my dentist tells me everytime I go in that I am one of the best teeth brushers though she says it not so odd sounding. I have a stuffy bloody nose which I read is also a symptom I thought I was getting a cold but I usually don’t get bloody nose’s and blurry vision is also one that I have that I didn’t know either I was very surprised to find some of these things out, but I also don’t understand what else it could be if it is not pregnancy could my test be wrong should I go to the doctor I am strongly leaning toward it, most likely dispite what anyone says I probably will go, but I just want to make sure I sound like I should and that it could not just be in my head but i guess it could.-

QUESTION:
Do I have gingivitis or something?
I think I might have gingivitis but I’m not sure. There is a very small spot of my gums, above one of my top teeth, about 1 cm long by 1/2 cm wide, that is a slightly swollen and pale compared to the rest of my gums. My parents saw I and told me I might have gingivitis. It’s been there for about a week now. I’ve looked up the symptoms online, and I don’t have any of them. It is not severely swollen or red, it does not hurt when I touch it, and it does not bleed when I brush my teeth or floss. My question is, do I have some mild form of gingivitis? And if it is not gingivitis, is it some other gum disease? Is it normal? Will it go away?Btw, if it helps you answer the question, I have braces on my top teeth, and I brush and floss morning and night, plus mouthwash.
Please help me. Thanks.
-
ANSWER:
Sounds more like an irritation than gingivitis, which happens at the gum line. And 1 x 1/2 cm is not small at all. How strong is your mouthwash? Can you stop using it for a couple of days? You are the best person to say whether it’s normal or not. If you are worried, ask your dentist.

QUESTION:
Help! Do I have gingivitis/gum disease (pics included)?
Okay, I’d just like to start off by saying that I’ve been brushing twice a day, flossing once or twice a day, and using antiseptic mouthwash daily. However, recently I’ve discovered a few days ago that I had not been flossing the back my third upper right molar (I assumed that my gum was covering the crown, like my lower rearmost molars).I have been a bit more meticulous about my flossing and have paid special attention to that particular spot of my mouth, and a few days later I started bleeding and feeling pain during my flossing and brushing. Here are some pictures of that area:
Now, I’ve done some a bit of reading about gingivitis and gum disease, and I’ve been really scared to see that I’ve matched up with a couple of the symptoms: bleeding, soft gums that are painless except when pressure is applied, slightly redder hue in comparison to the rest of the gum. However, I’ve looked at images of mouths with gingivitis, but mine didn’t really bear a whole lot of resemblance to them. In fact, it looks kind of like a canker sore or mouth ulcer placed beside a tooth.
It’s been a few days now, and I’ve been intensifying my oral hygiene efforts, but the situation has not diminished. I’m scheduled for a dentist appointment next month, but I’m afraid that if I don’t act quickly I might descend into a more serious condition.
Do I have gingivitis or some other gum disease? What should I do to alleviate it? Is it possible that my brushing/flossing/mouthrinse might be exacerbating the problem? Should I be really concerned?
-
ANSWER:
I have followed a technique developed by Dr. Keyes some years back. Which is to simply mix baking soda, peroxide and salt together into a paste form and brush with it. It healed and toughen up my gums. So you might try this insted of harsh brushing etc. that may be abusing your mouth and gums.

QUESTION:
What is wrong with my cat? Gingivitis? Feline Infectious Peritonitis ( FIP )?
My cat is currently at the vet.
Symptoms:
Anemic
Bad Breath
Fever
Jaundice
Not Eating
Tooth Loss
Weight LossI’ve always fed with crunchy food, but once he stopped eating it so I gave him the canned food. He seemed to like it better, so I just continued to do a combination of the two.
We noticed a week ago that he stopped eating again so we took him to a vet, who did a blood panel and a feline leukemia test. He checked out good on the tests. The vet said that he had gingivitis, caused by eating the Friskies (crunchy) and Nine Lives (canned) cat food that we were feeding him.
He prescribed antibiotics, and said that the goal was to kill all the bacteria in his mouth. If this didn’t work after some time, he may have to remove his teeth. Not wanting to have his teeth removed, I have taken him to a different vet for a second opinion yesterday. This vet currently has him on an IV and is administering antibiotics and Prednisone. She sent a test to a lab to check him some more illnesses, one being FIP.
I will find out the result tomorrow.
I researched FIP and I am extremely worried because he has most of the symptoms.
Do you think he really has it?
I really don’t want to think that he is going to die. He is only 18 mo. old.
What do you think?
Yesterday, she pulled his mouth open and made the statement that his gums were really red.
Thanks for your answers. They made me feel better and gave me hope last night. I was able to sleep really good. Today, his temp went up so high, so fast that he went into a seizure and the doctor lost him.
Test result for FIP hadn’t came in. We took him home and buried him. The dr. sent samples to the state hospital and I will know in 1 – 2 weeks on what the actual cause was. I’m still waiting on the FIP test.-
ANSWER:
Are the gums around the teeth red and inflammed? This sounds VERY familiar to what my cat had. My cat presented with red gums, bad breath, anorexia, weight loss, and fever. I took her to one vet, who did the blood work, the fluids, the antibiotics. She got better. Two weeks later back to where she was. After the 3rd time this happened I switched vets. This vet opened her mouth, took a look and said she had something called Plasmacytic Lymphocytic Stomatitis. Basically her body is trying to break down her gums and teeth. There is no cure and it must be diagnosed by biopsy of the mouth. I dont know if this is what you kitty has, hopefully the FIP comes back negative. If so, consider switching to a different vet. I had to go to three different vets til i found one that was able to treat her once she had been diagnosed.
