Cosmetic dentistry gums (cosmetic surgery for gums treatment) is also known as gum surgery. It helps in treating the gum problems painlessly and with fast results. Laser gum surgery is also coming up in which a laser beam is used to treat the gum problems. This laser beam attempts to heal the affected region and the wound for complete treatment for gums.
Early treatment of irritated gums can prevent gingivitis from progressing to periodontitis. In the initial phase, your gums may swell and bleed easily during brushing and flossing. Gum bleeding is an early indicator of gingivitis.

QUESTION:
Gum problems?
Hi, so my problem I have right now is that near my top gum line (behind my teeth) is swollen and would bleed whenever I brush them. About 2 weeks ago the area was near the back of my two front teeth and the 2 others next to them were swollen, I brushed the area and used salt/water and listerine. A week later the gum area turned normal however the gumline on one of my teeth after seems to have retracted, exposing more of my back tooth. A few days later, now I have the same problem except now it’s all on my back teeth area and for the past two days whenever I wake up I have some “gel-like” substance on my gum, it disappears when I brush it (resulting in tons of pain) but comes back the next day. So currently now my gum line is in tons of pain and the gum line behind one of my teeth seems to be missing, does anyone know what this is? And will continuing to use listerine/salt water do the job? Thanks-
ANSWER:
yeah. look like you do have a gum problem. call your dentist and book an appointment. Probably you do have periodontal disease. Sorry, it won’t go away by mere brushing and rinsing with saline solution or listerine. You will probably need a dental cleaning or curettage. good luck

can dental surgery help my friend with is reciding gum problems?
Is there any type of dental surgery? and what is gum surgery is it true that they can add more gum or is it a lie and if they can how do they do it?-
ANSWER:
Yes, I actually had a surgery like this so I will just speak from my experience. I had a receding gum on my lower jaw three teeth from the center I am not a dentist so I don’t know what tooth it was. They grafted gum from the roof of my mouth onto the site with the receding gum and it healed completely within 3 weeks or so, the gum has not had any problems since and I had the operation about 7 years ago. I Had to go to a special oral surgeon and it was an outpatient procedure. I had the procedure done in NY, USA

QUESTION:
Will Colgate Time Control also help younger adults with bleeding gum problems?
I hear about Colgate Time Control which is supposed to stop gum recession from the effects of aging and strengthen gums. Will this have a similar benefit for those that are younger but have issues with sore or bleeding gums at the moment? If not what alternatives are there?-
ANSWER:
Honestly I have no idea as to what toothpaste would be helpful. But salt water may help and proper care of teeth would likely prevent these gum issues.
I would recommend going to a dentist if they haven’t yet, for they could have gingivitis which has those symptoms and if left untreated may progress into periodontal disease. The disease is caused my tartar build up underneath the gum line and causes soreness, bad mouth odor, bleeding, receding of gums and the eventual loss of teeth do to the deterioration for the gum’s attachment to them. Oral surgery can be necessary, which would be quite expensive. More than going to a dentist earlier on for a cleaning and diagnosis.
Please floss and brush teeth twice daily and see a dentist immediately if this is a possibility. If they get periodontal disease and it progresses for too long the damaging effects will be permanent not to mention the fact that they will be more likely to develop oral issues than someone never having been affected

QUESTION:
Has anyone experienced teeth or gum problems?
Does pregnancy bring on teeth or gum problems? Are they inter-related?-
ANSWER:
Sure pregnancy can bring on all sorts of symtoms that seem unrelated. Mayn women experience bleeding and sensitive gums during pregnancy. It has to do with the elevated hormone levels. A visit to the dentist during pregnancy especially when you are having such symtoms is in order. You should also be watching your diet as the vitamins you ingest aren’t just for baby but to keep up your own health. Also taking care of your teeth and gums is very important especially during pregnancy as your body is under a lot of pressure during this time. Brush and floss especially if your gums are giving you problems… could be you aren’t flossing frequently enough. Good luck.

QUESTION:
one ortho says i need to pull out teeth to get fixed said that if forced w/o pulling i will have gum problems?
is that true because another one says that is not the case. what do u think?-
ANSWER:
I got 4 teeth pulled when I got my braces. It just makes sense. If your teeth are crowded, something has to make space first to allow the teeth to be spread out and straightened. If they try to straighten them w/out removing teeth, this equals straight teeth, but very crowded back teeth. This can cause more gum problems in the form of periodontal disease and bone loss. It is just easier to do it the right way.

QUESTION:
Can chewing lots and lots of sugarless gum cause any health problems?
I’m trying to stop snacking so much when I’m hanging around at home, so I’ve taken to having a pice of gum whenever I get the urge to snack. I’ve been chewing tons of gum. Could this have any negative health effects I’m unaware of? I only chew sugarless gum, so I don’t need to worry about tooth decay, right?-
ANSWER:
I will start with a philosophical answer to your question…..as Plato stated: “The excessive increase of anything causes a reaction in the opposite direction”. To much of anything will probably lead to a undesired result…this applies to health issues perfectly because the body needs to be kept in a state of relative equilibrium in order to properly function (homeostasis). The possible problems with chewing “lots of sugarless gum” are:
- artificial sweeteners in the gum like sorbitol, aspartam (source of phenylalanine) can lead to gastro-intestinal problems such as diarrhea.
- the gum base might contain possible carcinogens (although unlikely)
- may cause temporomandibular joint disorder
- severe weight loss – malnutrition ( due to the above mentioned sweeteners and the hunger suppressing effect you observed)
+ tooth decay isn’t an issue if it’s sugarless
I used to chew gum on a regular basis – just like you….and I experienced quite a bit of abdominal discomfort…..this doesn’t mean that you should stop completely since there’s enough evidence to suggest that it’s good for your teeth (in moderation).

QUESTION:
gum problems and i need help?
recently i have been having problems with my gums. they bleed when i brush, hurt at all times (brushing or not) they are sore and swollen. would this have to do anything with me preg. or should i call the doctor?-
ANSWER:
well i can say this or that but going to the dentist would be the best thing you could do. not going would be bad for your teeth. the mouth basically reflects how healthy the rest of your body is. if you have a problem with your gum’s or teeth, it might be another problem you are not even aware about. it doesn’t seem like a huge deal, but go to the dentist.

QUESTION:
best prevention for gum/infection/tooth problems?
Hello,
I’ve got several family members with gum problems, receding gums, cavities, etc.Is there a mouthwash product in the market that can help prevent future infections, gum issues, cavities, etc? Or some kind of gargling?
Natural treatments also ok.They do daily brushing and stay away from sugary foods, but these problems keep coming back. They are both in their 60s and take care of their teeth, but don’t go to dentists as they are uninsured.
Thank you!
-
ANSWER:
Going to the dentist is the best way to prevent and in saying so, that is their problem. Only professionals can remove the calculus build up that you cannot get off w/ brushing. Which then leads to infection, bone loss, cavaites….. Mouth wash is helpful, but your most important tool is diligent home care (brushing after every meal or sugary snack and FLOSSING!) Keep away from soda/energy drinks and juice.

QUESTION:
I grind my teeth but am having problems with my gum shield is there another option?
I have been grinding my teeth in the night for a few months now and finally went to the dentist to get a gum shield, but my teeth hurt so much after wearing them that is unbearable to eat the next day and I end up taking them out in the night because of the pain. My teeth do not hurt at all when I don’t wear them, but I am worried about my teeth being damaged. Is there any other way I can stop it ? Thanks x-
ANSWER:
What you should be wearing at night is a HARD plastic (acrylic) night guard, called a ‘flat plane night guard’. It should not be soft ie flexible.A soft night guard has been shown initially to give some relief but then causes increased grinding….this sounds like your problemThe latter is not suitable . The idea of a night splint is not to stop grinding. But instead of grinding teeth against teeth, you are grinding teeth against the hard plastic. A correctly designed splint will reduce the pressures on your teeth/ muscles and improve the resultant pain.

QUESTION:
I watched the news today about the on going problems about chewing gum?
and the mess it makes on our streets, from outside shops and on buses and trains. Why can’t they make gum dissolve far more quicker and do you think its about time that the council should send the bill to the manufactures because it cost’s the tax payer thousands of pounds every year to clean up this mess also there is a lot that the manufactures could do to assist to clean up this mess by supplying the council machines that ideal for this job and no cost to the tax payer.-
ANSWER:
yea thats not really a guestion but thats a not a very good thing when people just spit it out anywhere its just stupid. there are plenty of bins around so why dont people just chuck them in the bin!?? But then otherwise the factories should put something in it to make it dissolve quicker for the sake of a clean country.

QUESTION:
Do you think that feeding canned dog food to your dog contributes to their gum disease and teeth problems?
I’ve only fed our dog dry dog food. I try to remember to brush his teeth every night, but I forget alot to do that.-
ANSWER:
I do see a lot of cases in our clinic with dogs who have lots of plaque and tarter build up that are on a canned only diet. However, it really depends on the dog. I do think lots of can food is a contributing factor, but if an owner neglets dental care, a dog can still have teeth and gum problems. Not everyone brushes their dogs teeth every day (I don’t). I do give my dog dental chews every night and I use some water treatments so that he can rinse his mouth of bacteria every week or so. Some breeds of dogs just have poor dental structure that allows them to more easily trap bacteria in their mouths.

QUESTION:
Has anyone taken Mastic Gum for stomach problems?
Thinking about trying it as I have taken all the prescription ppi’s (Prilosec, Prevacid, etc.) Just not sure how to do it- do I just take that and stop the PPI’s or do I take it along with the PPI’s?? I would ask my GI doc but he is going to say not to take a herbal medicine.-
ANSWER:
I’m going tomorrow to get some more mastic gum. I love the stuff. I didn’t take it properly the first time, meaning I didn’t even finish the bottle. But when I did take it consistantly for a couple of weeks it was working and my skin tone improved very noticably. I had 2 pills left yesterday and took them and felt a difference already. You need to take 2 in the morning and 2 before bed for a month, then drop down to 2 in the morning. Not sure about taking the antacids, my wellness doctor says they aren’t good for you, because they inhibit your acids in your stomach and you need them in your stomach. Also, I bought mastika off the internet, didn’t work. Then I went to the health store and bought mastic gum made by solgar, and thats what worked, I noticed a big difference in the two. I have peptic ulcers, and have had H.Pylori so I’m pretty messed up and I think mastic gum is my answer.

QUESTION:
Do oral “waterpick” products really work at dental/gum problems, or are they more hype?-
ANSWER:
They really do work! They stimulate the gum tissue and toughen it against periodontal disease, and they are also excellent for removing food particles. Try it- brush your teeth, then use a water pick. You’ll see the food it dislodges. One tip- when you first begin, use a very gentle setting, or else you can cause gum injury/bleeding. As your gums strengthen, you can increase the pressure.

My son put his lower teeth into his lower lip. He was bleeding profusely and we took him to the ER. They told us that since the teeth didn’t come through the skin on his face that they could do nothing with it.Still maybe you need to take her to the dentist to be sure.

QUESTION:
Gum problems that have been ongoing for several years, and I am tired of it!!?
Hi all, I have had some major gum problems in the past several years. I have had so much trauma with dentists in the past, I have SO Much anxiety about anyone going near my gums.
I had root canals on my two front teeth, and they failed and caused infection in the bone above the teeth. I had an apico years ago, and a year and half ago I was told i needed another one, but I didn’t get it. I am not in pain or anything, but occasionally the teeth ache. I wake up most morning with blood on my front teeth.
Could this be causing problems with my whole gums? My gums are a bit swollen all the time, with some ulcers on the gums in between the teeth, and are sore to brush.
I want to try and correct it as best as I can, I am just frozen with anxiety.
What is the consequence of putting off another apico?
Any opinions on what’s going on with the gums?
Thanks-

QUESTION:
Gum Problems.. HELP!?
I have had gum problems forever, I never felt it but the dentists are always mad at me about it and I bleed when I brush my teeth. 2 days ago I finally decided to do something about it and I started to:
1) Floss after every meal
2) Rinse my mouth with a special mouthwash for gum problems
Since I started doing that my gum really hurts! I can barely brush my teeth it hurts pretty bad..
My question to you is: should I keep doing what I am doing and eventually the pain is going to pass and I will finally have healthy gum or am I just doing something wrong?
Help Please!
Also, should I really floss after every meal or just once a day is better?
Thanks!-
ANSWER:
You have a gingivitis; gingivitis is the inflammation of the gums that affects the color of your teeth by bacterial decay. You have “high” gingivitis, which happens to other people with similar family traits.ADA products sometimes work for whitening and curing periodontal diseases.
Also go to see the dentist; you should get antibiotics to prevent bacterial diseases.

QUESTION:
Tooth and Gum Problems?
Lately I’ve had a lot of problems with my teeth. I went to the orthodontist for the first time about six or seven months ago and she discovered that I had really bad enamel erosion. My orthodontist thought I was bulimic but I’m not, and I don’t have acid reflux so I don’t know whats causing that problem. Then last month I went to the dentist and one of my teeth had turned gray and I have to have a root canal. My dentist said it could be because I hit my tooth on something but I have no reccollection of doing that. And now, just yesterday, I discovered two black spots on my gums. One is right on the base of my gum and tooth, and the other is on the inside of my gums. I looked it up, and it said it could be an amalgam tattoo, but the only metal I have in my mouth are my braces, and I think I have one filling on my top teeth. So my question is, what is going on with my teeth?-
ANSWER:
Lots of questions here, I’ll give it a shot. First, enamel erosion can be caused by many things and if you ruled out the first two then there must be some other cause. Acidity causes the enamel to erode so if you’re not bulemic or have reflux disease then do you suck on lemons or limes? Do you drink more than 2 sodas a day, do you have drymouth,(saliva buffers the acidity in your mouth) do you drink a lot of sports drinks or energy drinks? If you answer yes to any of these questions then you need to give up the habit or if your mouth is dry then chew sugarless gum after meals. Second, a gray or obviously discolored tooth could mean that the tooth is dead but doesn’t necessarily need a root canal. It only needs one if you have pain or discomfort, have had a previous filling in it, or has a lesion at the root tip on an xray that has appeared where there was not one before or is growing in size compared to previous xrays. Third, spots on your gum could indeed be an amalgam tattoo but since you know you don’t have any amalgam in your mouth they could be a blue nevus (like an intraoral mole) or an oral melanotic macule (an isolated area with increased melanin pigment deposit).People who are black or hispanic have this often. Just make sure that these spots stay the same and don’t grow or change color over time because it could be melanoma which can be serious. Whatever happens don’t worry too much about it right now, just eat a good diet, not high in acidity and brush/floss every day and get regular dental checkups.

QUESTION:
Why do I keep on having gum problems?
Once a awhile, I keep having gum problems on my lower gum part, the gum part on the bottom where my second and third molar teeth are. It gets painful, red, and then it bleeds SUPER a lot! I usually poke it with a needle to make all the nasty dead blood come out or use a tooth scaler to get it out! I noticed that sometimes I get it from eating hard food that pressures on to my gum, and then sometimes, I get it out of no where. Why do I keep having this problem? Is it because I do not brush my teeth well enough? I get regular x-rays done, and I visit my dentist every two weeks to get a professional cleaning done.
I mean, I visit my dentist every 3 months!-
ANSWER:
wow..your dentist sees you 2 weekly and can’t figure it out?? you need to change your dentist.
Gums bleed easily when they are irritated often the cause is palque and tartar which relates to how well and often you brush and floss and how ofte and well your dentist scales them. Other factors such as hormonal influences(pregnancy, mensturation), mouth breathing, vitamin deficiency(rare) also affects things.
