Are you worried that you might end up having receding gums surgery because you have not found the right receding gums cure? Looking for a remedy for gum disease is just as hard as having the problem. But you didn’t even know that it could be right into your own household. What are these swollen gum treatment and remedies? Hang on because I’ll discuss them here for you.
Where do gum problems come from? There are millions and millions of bad bacteria that could stay, grow and multiply inside your mouth, just few hours left unclean. These bacteria will turn into plaques, and then turn into tartar, and will be calcified in your teeth and gum lines.
These tartar buildups could give you serious problems like halitosis or bad breath, gingivitis or inflammation of the gums, receding gums, and tooth loss. In other cases, it is nearly impossible to remove the buildups with just your ordinary toothpastes or mouthwash. It may take weeks to several months to fight these tartar buildups.
What you need to do is to have and maintain not only good but meticulous oral hygiene. Look for a product with anti-bacterial properties and could fight bacterial infections in your mouth, and prevent progression of the problem as well. Look for something worth buying for. Look for something that will reverse or prevent your gum problems.
Have you tried looking for it on your favorite drugstore or grocery store? Are have you sought advice from your dentist regarding this? If not, act now. There are products readily available in the market. But be cautious, because all of them are claiming to be very effective.
A product with a toothpaste, mouthwash, breath freshener and antibacterial in one is recommended. Look for a formula that could deal with your bacteria buildups, could kill microbes, and fungal infections. Look for a product that could fight against tartar buildups not like your ordinary toothpaste. Find an ingredient which is delicate but powerful in fighting off germs.

QUESTION:
Receding gums?
My gums are receding like an old man’s hair line. I’m almost 20 years old! I don’t wanna lose my teeth or anything! I’ve already had 6 teeth bonded where the gums are receding around them. It’s painful and I don’t know what to do!! I’ve gone to the dentist and he’s just like “we can either bond or do skin grafts” and he doesn’t tell me what the problem is. Is it genetic, because my 28 year old brother has the same thing, but my parents don’t. Is it from brushing teeth too much or too hard? Is it something to do with chewing gum all the time or the types of food I eat? Please help! I don’t want to have to get my teeth bonded again or start getting skin grafts! I brush my teeth usually 3 times a day. I floss and use ACT mouthwash every night. I chew sugarless gum all the time. But I still get cavities and I still get receding gums. I am scared of losing my teeth!
how come people never answer my questions?
So….like every question around mine is answered and has like 10 or more answers….mine has 0….this is bull shit.-
ANSWER:
Hey, I know how you’re feeling. I have the same problem but mine was because my gums were unhealthy and I had gum disease. I had deep scaling and root planning procedure ( when they remove the bacteria from under the gumline) and it improved.
Next I invested in a Sonicare toothbrush ( about but well worth the money). It thoroughly cleans your teeth and massages your gums so they can be healthy and it stopped the recession!
Go to another dentist, maybe he’ll tell you something different.
If your gums are receeding only because of the way you brush then definately get the Sonicare, it’s a miracle worker.
Good luck!

QUESTION:
Receding Gums?
I’m 25 and already have several teeth with receding gums. I have no cavities and my teeth are in good condition. My dentist said that it’s caused by my incorrect brushing (brushing too hard). Is there anything that I can do to fix this? I know that gums don’t grow back but is there anything to help it NOT recede any further? Also, the exposed upper part of the tooth is sensitive to the touch. Is this how its going to be forever? Please help..I need my teeth!
-
ANSWER:
you can use a soft or sensitive toothbrush for cleaning your teeth. important use and up and down sweeping motion in brushing your fornt teeth, circular motion on brushing the sides of your back teeth, and brush all surface of your teeth lightly and gently for about 3-5 minutes.the exposed teeth could be filled with a light cured tooth colored composite material, to lessen and eliminate the sensitivity.
however there would be no way for the gums to grow back, daily massage with a pyodontyl toothpaste every night would help, but this doesnt guarantee that the gums will grow back to its original form.
the only way to correct the gumline is through surgery, wherein the gums will be released and suture back to cover the previously exposed areas.

QUESTION:
What causes receding gums when no disease is present?
My dentist noticed my gums are receding on my canines in front, as well as in front on my lower incisors. I have no dental diseases. What else causes gums to recede? What are gum re-alignment procedures like?-
ANSWER:
ANGELA,
FYI, braces do not cause gum recession
Why not? The movement of the teeth doesn’t alter the bone height in such a manner to cause recession.
So why is there recession?
It’s caused by using anything but a soft toothbrush and/or brushing too forcefully.
This causes too much pressure over the bone and it wants to retreat away from it by receding away from this pressure.
A gum graft is a surgical procedure used to successfully re-establish the correct height.

QUESTION:
will my receding gums grow back if i start brushing regularly?
i didnt take care of my teeth for a long time and now my gums are receding a little. what can i do?-
ANSWER:
Receding gums will not grow back. With better care they will get no worse except for a natural small amount of recession as we get older. The only way they can come back is with the placement of gingival grafts which is costly and not always successful.

QUESTION:
What can I do to improve my receding gums and whiten my teeth?
I’ve been using an enamel protection toothpaste because my teeth are sensative and brush twice a day. Lately I’ve noticed my gums are receding pretty bad and I have sensitivity issues along my gum line. I brush my teeth rather aggressively because I feel I don’t get them clean if I do not scrub harder. What can I do to improve whiteness, reduce sensitivity and improve my gums?-
ANSWER:
First – have your DDS do the deep cleaning the dentist will remove the Calculus (tartar) from not only above but below the gum line there also have the DDS check for below the gum line cavities.
Second – after you have the cleaning have the area irrigated with the DDS/RD H’s solution of choice to help the gums heal and repair.
Third – use a toothpaste that can help prevent sensitivity.Brush, floss and use mouthwash at least 2x’s daily. When you are going through the deep cleaning ask your DDS about whitening options but I would recommend that you start using whitening strips, toothpaste, gum and mouthwash. (I use Crest 3D everything and love it.)
If you are sent to a DDS specialist (Periodontist) for your gums make sure you do not miss an appointment or reschedule to much because they will cancel your treatment.

QUESTION:
What is the best mouthwash to use if you have receding gums or sensitive teeth from that problem?
I have an issue with receding gums. I actually just noticed a little notch where my gum meets a tooth and it is very sensitive. I went to the dentist and he put something on it, but that was it. I want to do anything I can to keep my teeth healthy and not let this problem continue. What mouthwash/toothpaste, etc. is the best to slow the recession of my gums and protect my teeth?-
ANSWER:
To slow the recession: Make sure you are not clenching/grinding your teeth, use gentle circular brush strokes especially when brushing the areas of recession. Clenching/grinding place forces on your teeth that cause gum recession and/or abrasion. Check this website and look under the diagnostic session: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruxism
What is happening is now the dentin layer is exposed to the air due to the gum tissue receding. These areas are almost always sensitive. You can use sensodyne toothpaste every time you brush, use over the counter fluoride rinse (ACT), or ask your dentist to call you in a prescription for fluoride gel (Prevident). The prescription fluoride gel is usually the most effective.

QUESTION:
How long does it take to recover from surgery for receding gums?
I have bad receding gums and I have to get like a skin graft on my gums. They are taking a strip off the roof of my mouth and sewing it to the front of my gums on both the top and bottom. How many days should I expect to take off work to recover? I am hoping I can take a Thursday and Friday and use Saturday and Sunday to my advantage- I hate taking off of work!-
ANSWER:
I`ve had this procedure done twice, LOL, ( yep, I`m sooo fortunate). It depends on how much tolerance you have to pain. The roof of your mouth will feel like a really bad burn, so you`ll be stuck to eating soft foods for about a week. The actual incision site can throb a bit, so I would not recommend eating any really hot or cold food for a week as well. But I would take a couple of days off work….. You might be a little groggy from the pain killers. But after two days, you should be fine.

QUESTION:
My gf has problems retaining calcium in her bones and has receding gums. What will happen on the long run?
I know this is a medical question but I just wanted to throw it out there. She is constantly taking vitamin D and calcium pills and every now and then she goes to the dentist to get her gums checked because they are receding. She used to do crystal meth and that is what she says is the cause but what I’m more concerned is the long term affects? Will she be disabled or suffer from some bone disorder? Thanks a lot guys.-
ANSWER:
If she can’t retain calcium, osteoporosis in bones are only part of the problem. She could have severe neurological affects as well since calcium plays a huge part in our nervous system, as well as our muscular system. Having low levels of calcium would basically put some one near the brink of death and she could have seizures, etc. Calcium levels are on a very very short range for normal homeostasis – that is between 8-10 mg/dl. Not a lot of room for error there. She should be seeing a doctor who will continuously monitor her calcium levels and see what all they can do for her.

QUESTION:
How can l prevent my gums from receding any further?
I have receding gums on 5 lower teeth,is anything l can do to help the situation? Like mouthwash? My dentist suggests that l do a tissue graft, but l don’t have insurance and it cost quit a bit. It doesn’t hurt ,but l don’t want to get worst.-

QUESTION:
Best natural way to take care of receding gums?
I guess what caused my receding gums is brushing too hard & by using Listerine mouthwash all the time. Now I gently brush & floss my teeth and I threw out the mouthwash.
I don’t drink soda. Usually I will only drink water or milk. Once in awhile coffee.-
ANSWER:
You’re already on the right track. Make sure your toothbrush is a soft one. And drink plenty of water. Use a toothpaste that includes SLS (or any other laurel sulphate) – most of them do. While I am against SLS normally, it’s ability to permeate the gums and stimulate blood flow is actually a plus for receding gums.

QUESTION:
Does anyone know what the approximate cost for surgery for receding gums is?
If anything it would be for a minor case of receding gums. I have insurance (Aetna DMO). I know this is completely subjective, but any ballpark figures would help. I’m talking about where they graft tissue, I guess.-
ANSWER:
You do NOT want a gum graft. It is the most horrible, painful surgery they have come up with. It’s worse than having a toenail pulled. If your problem is minor seek a different solution. Get a 2nd, 3rd opinion. Whatever it takes.

QUESTION:
Does anyone know of an operation which corrects Receding Gums?
My dentist says my gums are receding at the bottom. He says to correct this I need to have an operation to have the gums pulls over the gum margin. Has anyone had this done, and if so was it a success?-
ANSWER:
I am a dentist. I think what your dentist is referring to is a soft tissue, gingival graft. These are usually performed by Periodontists (gum specialists) but certainly can be performed by a general dentist with periodontal experience. They are successful, depending on the type of grafting done. Best to consult the specialist, and check out the following link for patients, from the American Dental Association. Hope things turn out OK for you.http://www.ada.org/prof/resources/pubs/jada/patient/patient_46.pdf

QUESTION:
Are there other alternatives beside tissue grafts for receding gums?
I don’t feel comfortable w/the procedure, is this the only way to treat receding gums? How safe/difficult is the whole procedure? How do l know my doctor are trained in it even he said he’s very capable? How common is this? Thanks.-
ANSWER:
I have had four gingival (gum) tissue grafts. All the grafts were done by students at a local dental college for 0 per graft. One graft failed due to swelling, and the students regrafted the area for free.It is not a particularly comfortable procedure, but then neither is losing teeth due to gingivitis and receding gums. All four of my grafts, five years later, are doing beautifully.
This article discusses other methods besides gingival grafts, but the other methods sound just as uncomfortable: http://www.wisegeek.com/what-can-i-do-about-receding-gums.htm
If you aren’t comfortable with your oral surgeon, you may want to consider using a dental school. Students perform the work, but they’re already dentists who are in graduate school learning their particular profession (periodontal surgery). This site lists dental schools http://www.ada.org/prof/ed/programs/search_ddsdmd_us.asp.
It’s OK to tell your dentist frankly that you’re concerned about the procedure. And it’s OK to ask your dentist for a second opinion. If he is a true medical professional, he wants his patients to make an informed decision about any surgical procedure.

QUESTION:
How do you fix receding gums?
I would like to know if anyone has tips on preventing and treating receding gums.-

QUESTION:
Does anyone know how to stop receding gums?
I am 13 and I brush my teeth EVERYDAY, TWICE a day. Please Help!!! I have no idea what is wrong! I noticed up close int eh mirror today after brushing my teeth that the gums below my side molars are receding! I am also done losing teeth, so that couldn’t be a cause. Could it be from tongue kissing? Just a thought. I don’t know how they would relate, though. Please Help!!!!!!! I don’t wanna be toothless by the time i’m 14!-
ANSWER:
Oh relax! I know your 13 and everything is a crisis at that age, but realy it isn’t. Receding gums can hurt eventually but they aren’t a crisis. you see a dentist, they diagnose and in some cases send you to a special dentist (I forget the name) and they do gum grafting. I’ve had that procedure a few times, not fun, but doesnt hurt THAT bad. Or the dentist might recomend a fluoride rinse like Plax and a toothpaste like sensodyne. You should try those first. Tongue kissing has nothing to do with it You wont be toothless. GOOD LUCK!

QUESTION:
Can using a soft toothbrush help reverse receding gums?
I used to use a medium toothbrush, but my dentist has urged me to use a soft toothbrush since she claims my medium toothbrush is causing my gums to recede. I have significant gum recession around several teeth. Will using a soft toothbrush help reverse this process? Do soft toothbrushes brush as well as medium or firm brushes? I’m 30 and my teeth are otherwise okay. Thanks.-
ANSWER:
Using a soft brush is a very good idea. It will prevent further recession of the gums but you gums will not come back to where they originally were. The only thing to get them back is to do some grafting which unless you have a very severe case, I would not recommend. Good luck

QUESTION:
anyone know how to make receding gums grow back?
i have receding gums caused by over-zealous brushing.
overall oral health is ok as i see the dentist twice a year.
thanks for answering my question.-
ANSWER:
My periodontist that I was using before did have a definite treatment for that. The gums themselves don’t actually grow back by themselves, but what causes them to recede is bone loss behind the gums around the tooth. It is the bone loss combined with infection, etc. that makes the gums go away. Treatment for this is minor surgery that installs a mesh made out of something similar to coral and has calcium in it. The bone regrows back around the tooth and the gums are partially reattached to this and eventually will cover the new bone area if everything else is kept in good shape. The cost of this is why I never went that route, but they were having really good results with this. You need to see an actual “periodontist” to find out about this though as regular dentists cannot perform the procedure as aren’t trained or equipped for it as is a specialty practice. Soft toothbrush is best for gums according to the periodontist as hard stiff brushes can damage the gums. They can now do amazing stuff in this regard. For those who haven’t had periodontal treatment before they specialize in gums and bones around teeth and braces of course. They can clean your teeth with what they call “deep scaling” where they deaden your mouth and go way down in the gums between the teeth to get out the stuff that regular dental visits can’t get to. Takes a few hours to do but is amazing the difference it can make. It is that residual stuff in the “pockets” around the teeth that cause the bone loss that leads to gum decay, etc. Ask your dentist about referring you to one.

-
QUESTION:
Is it possible to reverse receding gums?
Yes, it is! Here’s how you do it (keeping in mind that this cannot, legally, be taken as medical advice since only a medical doctor can prescribe such a thing):Natural, organic raw foods. Make sure the meat you eat is free range, organic, and without any preservatives.
Astaxanthin. 16-20mg per day, or to bowel tolerance.
High amounts of calcium, potassium, boron, and magnesium. Coral calcium is good for this.
Vitamin C to bowel tolerance.
Do all the cleanses (kidney, liver, colon, parasites, candida, heavy metal, full body fat cleanse)
There you have it. If you have receding gums, you can now shock your dentist in just a few months or even weeks.
Keep in mind that the body has the ability to repair itself. It can reverse any degenerative disease if we just give it the nutrients it needs and get rid of the stuff it doesn’t like (toxins). You’d be amazed at how powerful the body is at repairing itself.
And yes, I meant reverse. Gum tissue can grow back.-
ANSWER:
ACTUALLY IT DOES NOT REALLY WORK. IN ORDER FOR A RECEDED GUM TO BE REATTACHED AT AHIGHER LEVEL, AND THE OPERATIVE WORD IS REATTACHED, IT HAS TO BE A MECHANICAL METHOD. THIS MEANS THAT ADDITIONAL TISSUE NEEDS TO BE TAKEN FROM PALATE AND THEN PLACED OVER THE AREA WHERE THE GUM HAS RECEDED AND THEN IT MUST REATTACH AT A HIGHER LEVEL. UNLESS THERE IS AMEDICAL UNDERLYING CAUSE FOR GUM RECESSION THEN MEDICATION MAY HELP.

QUESTION:
Can you prevent gums from receding any further?
Ok. So I’m 14 and the front tooth in my mouth seems to have a receding gum line. Is there anything I can do to prevent it from receding anymore? I’m afraid the tooth will fall out because it’s a permanent tooth. I use a soft bristle toothbrush and I have been using the Crest toothpaste with Baking Powder and Peroxide. I don’t know if this will cause more receding. Please recommend some items that will help me.-
ANSWER:
If you have receding gums, it is indeed a cause for concern and the best thing that can help you is to see your dentist as soon as possible so that your dentist can assess the extent of any gum problems and can be able to giver appropriate recommendations and certain treatments that can improve the condition. In general, gum disease is caused by bacteria in plaque and they release toxins. And the first thing that you may get to notice is that your gums do bleed without any pain. Eventually, gum disease can cause teeth to become loose, and pockets are formed in the gum. In these pockets, bacteria can cause infection in the gums, accompanied by swelling, pain and destruction of the bone that supports the teeth.for more tips on gum health care visit http://www.oramd.com

QUESTION:
Is Listerine good for receding gums?
I have receding gums, and have been using Listerine mouth wash. However, there is some burning sensation involved because it’s alcohol base. Will it make it worst for receding gums? I’ve read the label on other mouth wash, like ACT but it doesn’t say it prevents/reduce gingivitis like Listerine.-

FYI,
listerine won’t have any effect on receding gums but some possible sensitivity.
Brushing incorrectly with anything but a soft bristle brush causes recession, not grinding the teeth.

QUESTION:
How to prevent receding gums?
Hi, I’m only 23 years old and I noticed that the gums on my lower front teeth are receding. Is there a way I could prevent this from occuring? Would flossing twice a day leave spaces in between my teeth?-
ANSWER:
Receding gums can be caused by using a hard or even medium bristled tooth brush or just brushing too hard. Get a soft bristled tooth brush and instead of brushing hard to get your teeth clean brush slow and longer. Or like me I got an electric tooth brush because I couldn’t refrain from brushing too hard, my electric tooth brush glides across my teeth without any effort from me. If problem still persists consult your dentist to see if the issue is some gum issue. Also I’ve heard that whitening toothpastes can help cause receding gum lines. Also Dentists only advise you to floss once a day. Flossing is definitely very good for your gums but maybe twice a day is too excess!

You should definitely have this looked at. Perhaps the temporary is not fitting properly and is causing the gum to be irritated and recede.

QUESTION:
Is tissue grafting the only lasting way to cure receding gums due to gum disease?
. . . where tissue (skin) from the roof of the mouth (which grows back quickly) is implanted on the edge of the tooth where the gum has receded; or can a synthetic filler be used to get the same effect?-
ANSWER:
If your gums have receded, they will not grow back to their original level. Grafting is your best bet. Or you may just want to leave the recession alone unless it affects your appearance badly.

QUESTION:
Can anything be done about receding gums?
Im only 28 but after a bout of Gingivitis my gums have receded badly. I really dont want to lose any of my teeth as some are wobbly now. Is there anything I can do to restore gum tissue?-
ANSWER:
Do you smoke? Smoking drains the body of vitamins & minerals & it shows first in the teeth & gums. Sugar & a high carb diet will do this also. You need to start taking vitamin C, several pills morning, noon, night & take an esterC tablet daily. You want to keep an almost continuous supply in your system.I’d suggest oil pulling. Take a tablespoon or 2 of virgin organic coconut oil & swish it around in your mouth. Keep your chin up so it gets back to the back teeth & gums. Swish it around as long as you can but at least 5 min. Do not swallow this oil, spit it out. This will draw the bacteria from your mouth. I’d suggest doing this 2x a day.
I would suggest adding oil of oregano to your coconut oil for additional benefits. If your coconut oil is solid, put it in a bowl of hot water (do not heat the coconut oil directly) until it melts, then add the oregano oil & mix it throughout. You don’t need to melt the coconut oil daily, just break off a chunk.

QUESTION:
How often to floss for swollen, receding, bleeding gums?
Ok I have been horrible at keeping up with flossing and my gums have been bleeding easily, and receding and very swollen. So I started flossing this past week every other day and they seem a little better but still swollen. And they’ve been bleeding a lot. I’m wondering how often I should floss this week? I want to do every day like I’m supposed to but is every other day better for now or what? I really just want to toughen them up right now and get them healthier!-
ANSWER:
Every day is always best! They’re bleeding because they’re infected and the way to clear it up is to continue to floss. The plaque hanging out around your gums is irritating them and that’s why they’re swollen and bleeding. Usually it takes 2-3 weeks of flossing daily to clear up.Also remember to be gentle! I get worried when I hear “toughen them up” because I envision people being really rough and that will cause more pain, bleeding from trauma instead of plaque, and recession. Be gentle and try not to snap the floss down between the teeth.

QUESTION:
What happens if you have receding gums on the back molars and don’t get gum grafting?
Can it get worse? Do you loose your teeth eventually? What eventually happens? Have you had the grafting done and how did it turn out? How many teeth? How much did it cost & how much did your insurance cover? I have no gingiva on 2 back molars.-
ANSWER:
First of all, receding gums occurs when the underlying bone has receded first. This is caused by severe or chronic inflammation due to infection from bacterial plaque or tartar on your teeth and gums. It can get worse if you do not get treatment to remove the source of infection. This is how the majority of people lose their teeth early. The bone recedes, then the gums, the the teeth get loose, and eventually have to be removed. Grafting can be done, which will decrease sensitivity by covering the exposed roots. This is very expensive, but not nearly as expensive as losing the teeth and having to have them replaced. The insurance coverage will depend on the particular insurance. Good luck and don’t put it off.

QUESTION:
What is the leading cause of receding gums?
I have heard its a sign of Oral Disease, but I don’t know if its genetic or what might cause it to happen.-
ANSWER:
Biofilm bacteria in your mouth from lack of cleaning… Brush with a toothpaste with baking soda and peroxide (helps to oxygenate your gums), start flossing twice a day, and using a post flossing medicated mouth wash like Listerine. Gum disease is hereditary, but it also can be prevented with really good care. :0)

QUESTION:
What can I do about my painful receding gums?
I do not have gum disease – my dentist says that I have good oral hygiene, but in the past couple of weeks I can feel exposure in four parts of my mouth and it is really difficult to brush properly.-
ANSWER:
yep, usually people with really good oral hygiene are our over brushers!!
Since you’ve brushed TOO hard over the years, it has likely caused your gums to recede and they will not grow back. Your options are to A) put up with it, it’s a nuisance I know. Or B) have a gum graft done. Regardless of which option you choose, EASE up on your brushing!! Finger tip pressure, o.k.?

QUESTION:
What can the dentist do for swollen/ receding gums? Please help?
I’m in pain. I also have NO insurance at the moment, so I need to know whether or not I really need to go if I can heal my gums myself.I do not drink anything but water & milk-
I brush my teeth twice a day and floss every other day (flossing everyday was beggining to tear my gums up worse than they already are now)
-
ANSWER:
You have to use a soft toothbrush and brush softly because excessive force can damage furthermore your inflamed gums. If you are on early stage of the disease maybe only professional oral hygiene is enough but if you have severe periodontitis your dentist might need to do scaling and root planing, gingivectomy, surgery to clean periodontal pocket etc…
