     You need to get to the doctor very soon. A number of things you are describing are consistent with low blood sugar, which can be caused by diabetes. Low blood sugar can be very serious, so see that doctor soon.

      2/3 c. popcorn 2 Tbsp. oil (for popping) 4 Tbsp. butter, melted 1 tsp. salt 2 Tbsp. confectioner’s sugar

      Pop the popcorn according to the package directions. We add the oil and popcorn kernels to a large stockpot over medium heat. Remember to put the lid on and do use a clear lid if possible (it just makes it more fun). Take the pot off of the heat when the popping starts to slow down. It will continue to pop after you take it of of the heat.

      While you’re waiting on the popcorn, melt the butter and dissolve the sugar into it. Do make sure that your confectioner’s sugar it gluten free. Confectioner’s sugar has corn starch mixed in with it and not all cornstarch is gluten free due to cross-contact issues. If you’re not sure, I think that brown sugar would make a great substitute. Honey or agave nectar might also work. You can always experiment by making a small batch of popcorn and testing the altered recipe before the big day. Also, if you are dairy or casein free, you can substitute whatever “butter” you use.

      Once you have your popcorn and syrup ready, drizzle half of the syrup over the popcorn and mix well. Repeat with the remaining syrup and then serve while hot.

      When zucchini slices are done, drape over a cooling rack to prevent them from steaming as they cool.

      Spread a heaping teaspoon of goat cheese filling over one side of each zucchini slice. Roll zucchini (not to tightly) and put them on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil. (Refrigerate if not using within an hour, but bring back to room temperature before finishing).

      Preheat broiler.

      Sprinkle zucchini rolls with freshly grated parmigiano-reggiano cheese and brown under broiler for 1 minute. Serve immediately.

      3 large leeks, white and tender greens – split, thinly sliced crosswise and thoroughly rinsed (about 3 cups)

      1-1/2 ounds red potatoes, peeled, and sliced very thinly

      1 large plum tomato, diced

      Directions
      Preheat oven to 450ºF.

      In a large skillet, melt 1 tablespoon butter. Add leeks and cook over moderately high heat, stirring, until softened,
      2 to 3 minutes. Add mushrooms, season with salt and pepper and cook, stirring, until vegetables are tender and the juices have evaporated, about 5 minutes. Stir in
      1 tablespoon parsley and remove from heat.

      Coat a 13″x9″ baking pan with 1 tablespoon butter. Layer 1/3 of the potatoes in pan, overlapping slightly; sprinkle with salt and pepper. Spoon half of the leek mixture over potatoes, top with another layer of potatoes and season with salt and pepper. Repeat with remaining leeks and potatoes. Sprinkle with salt and pepper, dot with remaining 1-1/2 tablespoons butter and pour stock around edges.

      Bake in upper third of oven for 25 minutes, or until potatoes are tender. If potatoes start to over-brown, cover loosely with foil.

      Rub cod with oil, season with salt and pepper and set on potatoes. Scatter tomato and remaining 1 tablespoon parsley over fish.

      Bake uncovered for 8 to 10 minutes, or until cod is just cooked through.

      Serve immediately, spooning any pan juices over potatoes.
      Tips
      Unsalted butter is a fresher alternative to salted butter and does not add unwanted additional salt.
      Halibut filets will also work nicely in this recipe.
      To reduce cooking time, slice potatoes very thin with a mandoline or a food processor.

    Is this lyme disease? Please help.?
    This will be long, but please!

    I’m fifteen, female, average weight (though I admit I don’t eat a healthy diet at all). For the past week and a half, I’ve been having chest pain. Sometimes they’re sharp and quick, other times more dull and constant. A couple days later, they started getting worse and spreading to my neck, arms, and occasionally legs. The first couple days I had panic attacks at night because I thought I was having a heart attack and my mother refused to take me to the doctor. When she finally took me everything seemed normal, but the pediatrician sent me to the ER to get an EKG and chest x-rays (to ease my mind, I guess). They both came out normal. But then the symptoms continued to get worse. My appetite is almost completely gone, and I’ve lost almost ten pounds. Also, I feel almost constantly lightheaded (or have a headache), and, not sure if this is relevant, but my joints (including jaw) seem to be popping more often than usual, and feel stiff. I know this is probably irrational, but sometimes in my arms, legs, and feet I can feel my blood pulsing (WITHOUT feeling for it), and it really scares me, like there might be something wrong with my circulation. The only thing I didn’t tell the doctor, because I couldn’t really describe it at the time, was that there’s this feeling in my throat, like there’s phlegm or something, but I don’t have any other cold symptoms. This is probably stupid and irrational as well, but for several years now my right tonsil had been bigger than the one on the left, and lately (past three weeks) it feels a bit irritated (best I can describe it), but only sometimes. It doesn’t hurt when I swallow, it just takes more effort than usual, and though at first I thought the shortness of breath I’d had was due to the chest pain, now it feels more like it coming from my throat, trachea I guess. I feel constantly tired and stiff. There was diarrhea (sorry) yesterday. A couple days ago there was tingling around my face, hands, feet, and once, my whole lower left leg. My left eye (and surrounding face) has started to hurt. Sometimes (even when I’m not panicking, or even thinking about it) I can feel my heart pounding in my chest. Last night, I had another panic attack due to a persistent sharp pain from my scapula through my chest, and there was this thrashing that I couldn’t really control. My mom took me back to the doctor today, and he sent me to have a few more blood tests, but said that if they were normal that his diagnosis would be fibromyalgia. I was afraid it might be tetanus (maybe an overused razor or something), but the doctor shook his head when I mentioned that (said he’d never seen it). I haven’t my boosters yet. However, the results don’t come back until tomorrow morning, and I am terrified that if I go to sleep I won’t wake up again. Also, I know most of you will tell me that I shouldn’t be asking something like this on the internet, but I’m just grasping at the chance that someone will recognize any of my symptoms and tell me what is wrong. I need a diagnosis! I’m being tested for lyme disease, and am sort of hoping that I have it (I realize it’s not good, but at least it would be an explanation), but I heard that lyme disease tests aren’t always accurate. Also, If it is lyme, I think that the tick probably got on me about two weeks ago, so does that mean I’m in the late stage?

    Also, because you’ll probably be suspicious of the panic attacks, this has never happened to me before.

      I have fibromyalgia. Though everyones symptoms of this are different, many of your symptoms don’t fit.

      I doubt it’s tetanus or lyme disease so don’t stress. (and if you had a tick, it would still be there. They stay and attach to you)

      If you’re dr does say it’s fibromyalgia, go to a rheumitologist (arthritis dr) for a second opinion.

      Yes, its a genetic disease. Its also called Osler-Weber-Rendu Syndrome.

      Its an abnormality of blood vessels. They get malformed. And because of this abnormal structure they have, they easily bleed and are visible as spots on some parts of the body, esp. the mucous membranes.

      This can cause a lot of bleeding in some. In some, these malformed vessels in major organs will have an effect on their function.

      There is no cure. The problems that arise keep getting solved by doctors and multiple hospital admissions. But that’s all, since there really isn’t any solution on repairing the blood vessels all over the body.

    I think this is the biggest failure of science and generally the world. It is full of imperfections, even though religion is not a better alternative.

    But, what can you define as a disease; and what can you not? First of all, we have to realize that all humans are different physically. But they should be treated equally on moral basis, and on the basis of humanity (whether its gay ppl, straight ppl, women, old ppl; they should be treated equally on moral grounds).

    Because people are different physically; they exhibit different behavior due to the chemistry of their body. Here is where the tricky part comes. What can you categorize as an illness/disease/disorder and what can you not? This is the biggest failure of science: why do you need to categorize things into illnesses and non-illnesses? It is clear you are letting your bias through. Modern feminists define rape that is only committed by a man on a woman. So there come the discrepancies. Why can you not accept behavior that everyone’s behavior is deviant from one another. Why do we have to claim somethings are anomalies, and some are not? I know pedophilia and rape is wrong, but can you categorize is as an illness/disease/disorder? Do we have any proof that pedophilia and rape are not illnesses/diseases/disorders? Is there any proof that homosexuality is not an illness/disease/disorder? I dont think so.

    So why do we have to say that pedophilia and rape are done intentionally, when they could very well be ‘illnesses’. And how can we say homosexuality is not a disease/disorder when it could be?

    The fact is that these are faulty premises. We cannot categorize things into illnesses/diseases/disorders. Everyone is different from each other physically and psycologically. That is the best way to deal with things. Science cannot even come to a consensus when (at what time period) a child in a mother’s womb is alive; or whether abortion is murder or not (after what stage). So i think science has failed in that aspect.

    Feminists wants the EXACT same physical rights for women that they want for men. Men and women are different physically, remember that. So I would want rights to be ‘balanced out’ between male and female; and that would constitute as EQUAL rights, not the EXACT SAME rights.

      Science is science. Medicine is medicine,.Religion is religion. Religion should not mix in often with the first two, and then, only rarely.
      None are absolutes, they are always changing and being refined, sometimes out and out shook up and turned on their heads.
      You can define plenty of things as illness/ disease and others as disorders.

      I think you are concentrating on the grey areas of how religion and culture can shape policy and definitions and blaming science for those grey areas. Please remember all areas of science, medicine, religion, and politics are influenced by PEOPLE. People have opinions/beliefs,etc. and those opinions influence how they are going to interpret their work and world outlook. So if you want to blame anyone for the grey areas, blame the people that create them, NOT science.

      I know a few people with thyroid problems and it does require you to take a drug called “synthroid” for the rest of your life. It really isn’t a big deal at all, hopefully you have an over-active thyroid in which case you won’t have to worry about the side effect of weight gain as you do with an under active one. Your primary care doctor should be able to feel if your thyroid is enlarged at the base of your neck, he may or may not refer you to a specialist, depends on your doctor, some primary care doctors can treat the condition. It’s really nothing life threatening and shouldn’t really effect much except possible weight gain or loss, being very tired all the time and other minor problems. Since you need mitochondria in every cell to produce ATP, which provides energy for most of the reactions necessary for life, having a disease that affects them can cause a lot of problems. It mainly affects muscles and nerves since those cells require the most ATP to function normally. The good news is, mitochondrial diseases vary greatly in severity, so if she does have it, hopefully it won’t affect her too badly.

    What type of disease does a fish have if he sits at the bottom of the tank?
    I have a 45 gallon aquarium with three freshwater parrot ciclids. For the past week, the largest of the tree sits at the bottom and waves his fins normally as if s/he was swimming. The fish’s skin looks normal. He is eating normally and is not behaving any differently than before other than the sitting at the bottom of the tank. When I go to feed them, he swims normally like all of the other fish. About 6 weeks ago, we successfully treated hole in the head disease with this same fish. The water conditions are clean with the temp between 77 and 79 degrees. Anyone have any thoughts on the disease process thaty may be going on here? I appreciate your thoughts in advance!

      Seems like your fish is suffering from Swim Bladder.

      Swim or air bladder problems sometimes occur in freshwater fish. I have personally seen this is fancy goldfish such as Orandas, Ryunkins, and Shubunkins and also parrot fish.

      When the bladder is effected, the fish will experience equilibrium problems. Sometimes, the problem is not the bladder but other problems which directly affect the bladder. Diseased and inflamed internal organs, improper water conditions or nutrition, and wounds received from fighting with another fish can also effect the equilibrium of the fish. Constipation is also known to affect a fish’s swimming ability! Symptoms: The fish has problems swimming correctly. They may appear to be standing on their head, or have problems removing themselves from the bottom.

      At the later stages of the disease, the fish could lose its balance and swim upside down.

      Treatment: There is no specific treatment for this dilemma;however, you can try isolating the fish to a quarantine tank in which the water is shallow(this provides relief for the fish). Add one teaspoon of salt per gallon of water. Some individuals will feed thawed out frozen peas and this purges the fish’s system and has been noted to help many fish. After 1-2 weeks a return to the main tank with deeper water may be tried.

      The best advice I can give is to maintain proper water conditions, feed your fish a well balanced diet, and possibly try feeding your fish with sinking foods rather than floating types. They won’t inhale so much air this way. The pellets if soaked in water before feeding will expand before the fish eats them and this has helped a lot. Good luck with this!!

      If alcoholism is a disease (and it classified as a disease as you know), it must be a mental illness. The mentally ill often deny they are ill and the first identification of a mental illness is often when others notice that the afflicted person is behaving in unconventional, bizarre or self-destructive ways.

      Like other mental illnesses, there is no blood or urine test for alcoholism. There is no physical marker the healer can look for to identify the disease. All the signs are behavioral.

      There are blood and urine tests for other drugs. I can’t find anything where there is something in alcohol that causes you to become addicted like say cocaine or nicotine, etc. Wow, the more I search the more unanswered questions!

      Chronic Fatigue Syndrome seems like it fits your description pretty well: extreme tiredness is the main symptom, but sleep issues and problems with concentrating are also common complaints. CFS may also cause headaches, muscle and joint pains, a sore throat, or swollen glands.

    Someone asked a question about baby raccoons and her dog and one person responded that there is a disease that is fatal and transmittable from raccoon to dogs, but didn’t say what this disease was. Now Im sure he isn’t referring to rabies, so what is this disease? What are the symptoms?

      “Coon paralysis” is one that I have heard of. I don’t think it’s the same as leptospirosis since that affects the kidneys and liver, and coon paralysis attacks the nervous system. I think it’s transmitted through the saliva(bites) it’s been awhile since I heard of the case, but do know that it took over 6 months for the dog to get full use of his legs again.

      coon paralysis: the cause is unknown, but believed to be an immune-mediated disease with antibodies directed at the dog’s own peripheral nerves. It may be a virus or bacteria.

      My sister has rheumatoid arthritis and my nephew was born with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. The dr.s said my nephew would either be almost healed or he would be dead by 17 and that alot could depend on his diet and life style.
