What is sickness? What is disease? Why are both of these ailments extremely prevalent in a society that is more technologically advanced than ever before? In an age where man can build super scud missiles, devastating nuclear war heads, and can build space rovers that can roll on the planet Mars thousands and thousands of miles away, why has there not been a cure for the common cold? Why has sickness and disease remained an issue since biblical times?
The definition for sickness is to be in a disordered, weakened, or unsound condition. In other words, when one is sick, there is something that is within that individual that is out of alignment, lacking strength, and the internal infrastructure is fragile.
Disease is defined as a condition of the living animal or plant body or of one of its parts that impairs normal functioning. Disease is also defined as a harmful development.
Without question, our bodies are not built to resist sickness and disease. So what is the key to winning the battle of health and strength?
Well, the answer to these questions are definitely in the bible. But before we go any further, there is one thing that needs to be stately clearly.
Hosea 4:6 reads “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou has rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou has forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.”
We are susceptible to sickness and disease because we do not prepare ourselves to battle against them. To be equipped to fight sickness and disease, we must obtain the knowledge of how to defend ourselves, and this knowledge is found in the Word of God. Sickness and disease, just like spiritual ailments such as anger, violence and immorality, can lead to spiritual and physical enslavement. There are three derivatives of spiritual enslavement that we must conquer in order to rebuke and repel sickness and disease – Bondage, Oppression, and Curses.
Bondage is the servitude or subjugation to a controlling person or force. Just like a man being in bondage through drug abuse or fornication, man can be in bondage, or under control of sickness and disease in the same manner. Is it a coincidence that some people are more susceptible to sickness and disease than others? I think not. Lacking the understanding that we have been set free from sickness and disease by the mighty work that Jesus Christ did on the cross, we will continue to live life with a slave’s mentality, freedom being hidden from our eyes through our lack of knowledge and understanding of God’s Word.
Isaiah 53:5 reads “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”
The lashes on Jesus’ body represent all sickness and disease. We don’t have to accept sickness and disease because we were pre-destined to be healed by the stripes of Jesus Christ. The important part of the verse is the present tense statement “we are healed.” Healing is not a phenomena that happened when Jesus walked on earth, but it is a phenomena for today, this hour and this very second.
Not only is sickness and disease a form of bondage, but it is also a form of oppression. Oppression is the unjust or cruel exercise of authority or power and a sense of being weighed down in the body or mind.
Acts 10:38
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
Oppression needs healing. Oppression can also act as a disease. It is the power of God through the anointing of the Holy Spirit that destroys the yoke of oppression. In Matthew 11:30, Jesus states “my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” It is the light yoke of Jesus Christ that we must take on, in exchange for the heavy burden of oppression that can weigh us down physically or mentally.
Beyond being in bondage and oppression, sickness and disease are also curses. Curses are caused by disobedience of the law of God, His commandments and His will. Our disobedience creates a spiritual breach in which the enemy, the devil, can step in and throw his darts of sickness and disease at our bodies without resistance. There is no resistance against the devil because God lifts His hand and anointing from us when we are disobedient.
Deuteronomy 28:61
Also every sickness, and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, them will the LORD bring upon thee, until thou be destroyed.
In Deuteronomy 28, God specifically lays out the game plan for blessings and curses. The blessings and curses hinge upon our obedience, or disobedience of God’s Word. We can defeat and rebuke curses that are knocking at our door by maintaining a good standard of obedience to the Word of God.
For so long have the people of God fallen in the hands of religious tradition that teaches sickness and disease are part of life, and that they come and go as they please. This false teaching is a total lie and it derived straight from the pits of hell. Satan does not want us to understand the power that we have over sickness and disease. Honestly, he has done a good job using false teaching to keep us bound, oppressed and cursed.
Let us all rise up, stand on the Word of God, the Word of Truth, and rebuke the devourer and his plans of bringing sickness and disease into our lives. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty! Therefore, we are free from every trap and snare that Satan tries to set up for us, including sickness and disease!

QUESTION:
What disease is this?
I work at a summer camp for people with disabilities, and I can’t remember what disease one of my campers had. It caused physical disability (she uses a wheelchair) but not terribly severe – she can hold herself up, re position herself in bed, stand with support, use the bathroom independently, etc. Her face has a unique look to it, and her eyes are extremely red all the time, even the area around her eyes. She said her brother had the same disease as her, but he died at age 14 from pneumonia. if you have any idea what condition this sounds like, leave an answer. Thanks!-

ANSWER:
You need to get to the doctor very soon. A number of things you are describing are consistent with low blood sugar, which can be caused by diabetes. Low blood sugar can be very serious, so see that doctor soon.FROM WEBMD:
Hypoglycemia (Low Blood Sugar) in People Without Diabetes – Symptoms
The symptoms of hypoglycemia may vary from episode to episode because low blood sugar can be mild, moderate, or severe. Increasingly severe symptoms appear as the blood sugar level falls.
In healthy people, fasting blood sugar levels are usually between 70 and 99 mg/dL.Mild hypoglycemia
Symptoms of mild low blood sugar usually occur when blood sugar falls below 70 mg/dL and may include:
* Nausea.
* Extreme hunger.
* Feeling nervous or jittery.
* Cold, clammy, wet skin and/or excessive sweating not caused by exercise.
* A rapid heartbeat (tachycardia).
* Numbness or tingling of the fingertips or lips.
* Trembling.Moderate hypoglycemia
If blood sugar continues to fall, the nervous system will be affected. Symptoms usually occur when the blood sugar falls below 55 mg/dL and may include:
* Mood changes, such as irritability, anxiety, restlessness, or anger.
* Confusion, difficulty in thinking, or inability to concentrate.
* Blurred vision, dizziness, or headache.
* Weakness, lack of energy.
* Poor coordination.
* Difficulty walking or talking, such as staggering or slurred speech.
* Fatigue, lethargy, or drowsiness.Severe hypoglycemia
The symptoms of severe low blood sugar develop when blood sugar falls below 35 mg/dL to 40 mg/dL and may include:
* Seizures or convulsions.
* Loss of consciousness, coma.
* Low body temperature (hypothermia).

ANSWER:
He was a magician, and a poor one at that.This has been proven by this recently discovered historical film of Jesus performing his “magic tricks” which people at that time thought were “miracles” :-
I guess people were just more gullible and more easilly impressed back in ancient times. As civilisation has progressed we have just become more cynical and we demand more from those who are trying to entertain us. Today it is more about CGI and special effects then magic, although i suppose Jesus could just star in some type of reality show if he were alive today and still wanted to be in show business.

QUESTION:
What are some gluten free easy recipes?
I just found out that I have celiac disease and I’m curious on what are some good and easy recipes. Also what are some good snack type things that are gluten free.-
ANSWER:
Sweet & Salty Popcorn: Easy Gluten Free Snacks for the Super Bowl
2/3 c. popcorn 2 Tbsp. oil (for popping) 4 Tbsp. butter, melted 1 tsp. salt 2 Tbsp. confectioner’s sugarPop the popcorn according to the package directions. We add the oil and popcorn kernels to a large stockpot over medium heat. Remember to put the lid on and do use a clear lid if possible (it just makes it more fun). Take the pot off of the heat when the popping starts to slow down. It will continue to pop after you take it of of the heat.
While you’re waiting on the popcorn, melt the butter and dissolve the sugar into it. Do make sure that your confectioner’s sugar it gluten free. Confectioner’s sugar has corn starch mixed in with it and not all cornstarch is gluten free due to cross-contact issues. If you’re not sure, I think that brown sugar would make a great substitute. Honey or agave nectar might also work. You can always experiment by making a small batch of popcorn and testing the altered recipe before the big day. Also, if you are dairy or casein free, you can substitute whatever “butter” you use.
Once you have your popcorn and syrup ready, drizzle half of the syrup over the popcorn and mix well. Repeat with the remaining syrup and then serve while hot.

Gluten-Free Recipe of the Week:
Grilled Zucchini Stuffed / Goat Cheese & Sun-Dried Tomatoes
Ingredients
3 ounces goat cheese, at room temperature Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 Tablespoon finely chopped sun-dried tomatoes (oil-packed), well-drained 2 teaspoon fresh basil, chopped 1/2 teaspoon fresh thyme, chopped 1 teaspoon olive oil 3 small zucchini, cut into 1/4-inch thick lengthwise strips 2 Tablespoons freshly grated parmigiano-reggiano cheeseDirections
In a bowl, combine goat cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, basil and thyme. Adjust seasonings to taste with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Set aside.
Brush both sides of each zucchini slice with olive oil. Season both sides with kosher salt.
Heat a gas grill to high. Place zucchini strips on grill at a 45 degree angle to grates on grill. Cover and grill until well browned, about 2 minutes per side. Check occasionally and move slices around gently with tongs to prevent them from over-browning – be careful to not over-cook.
When zucchini slices are done, drape over a cooling rack to prevent them from steaming as they cool.
Spread a heaping teaspoon of goat cheese filling over one side of each zucchini slice. Roll zucchini (not to tightly) and put them on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil. (Refrigerate if not using within an hour, but bring back to room temperature before finishing).
Preheat broiler.
Sprinkle zucchini rolls with freshly grated parmigiano-reggiano cheese and brown under broiler for 1 minute. Serve immediately.

Bake uncovered for 8 to 10 minutes, or until cod is just cooked through.

QUESTION:
Is this lyme disease? Please help.?
This will be long, but please!I’m fifteen, female, average weight (though I admit I don’t eat a healthy diet at all). For the past week and a half, I’ve been having chest pain. Sometimes they’re sharp and quick, other times more dull and constant. A couple days later, they started getting worse and spreading to my neck, arms, and occasionally legs. The first couple days I had panic attacks at night because I thought I was having a heart attack and my mother refused to take me to the doctor. When she finally took me everything seemed normal, but the pediatrician sent me to the ER to get an EKG and chest x-rays (to ease my mind, I guess). They both came out normal. But then the symptoms continued to get worse. My appetite is almost completely gone, and I’ve lost almost ten pounds. Also, I feel almost constantly lightheaded (or have a headache), and, not sure if this is relevant, but my joints (including jaw) seem to be popping more often than usual, and feel stiff. I know this is probably irrational, but sometimes in my arms, legs, and feet I can feel my blood pulsing (WITHOUT feeling for it), and it really scares me, like there might be something wrong with my circulation. The only thing I didn’t tell the doctor, because I couldn’t really describe it at the time, was that there’s this feeling in my throat, like there’s phlegm or something, but I don’t have any other cold symptoms. This is probably stupid and irrational as well, but for several years now my right tonsil had been bigger than the one on the left, and lately (past three weeks) it feels a bit irritated (best I can describe it), but only sometimes. It doesn’t hurt when I swallow, it just takes more effort than usual, and though at first I thought the shortness of breath I’d had was due to the chest pain, now it feels more like it coming from my throat, trachea I guess. I feel constantly tired and stiff. There was diarrhea (sorry) yesterday. A couple days ago there was tingling around my face, hands, feet, and once, my whole lower left leg. My left eye (and surrounding face) has started to hurt. Sometimes (even when I’m not panicking, or even thinking about it) I can feel my heart pounding in my chest. Last night, I had another panic attack due to a persistent sharp pain from my scapula through my chest, and there was this thrashing that I couldn’t really control. My mom took me back to the doctor today, and he sent me to have a few more blood tests, but said that if they were normal that his diagnosis would be fibromyalgia. I was afraid it might be tetanus (maybe an overused razor or something), but the doctor shook his head when I mentioned that (said he’d never seen it). I haven’t my boosters yet. However, the results don’t come back until tomorrow morning, and I am terrified that if I go to sleep I won’t wake up again. Also, I know most of you will tell me that I shouldn’t be asking something like this on the internet, but I’m just grasping at the chance that someone will recognize any of my symptoms and tell me what is wrong. I need a diagnosis! I’m being tested for lyme disease, and am sort of hoping that I have it (I realize it’s not good, but at least it would be an explanation), but I heard that lyme disease tests aren’t always accurate. Also, If it is lyme, I think that the tick probably got on me about two weeks ago, so does that mean I’m in the late stage?
Also, because you’ll probably be suspicious of the panic attacks, this has never happened to me before.
-
ANSWER:
I have fibromyalgia. Though everyones symptoms of this are different, many of your symptoms don’t fit.I doubt it’s tetanus or lyme disease so don’t stress. (and if you had a tick, it would still be there. They stay and attach to you)
If you’re dr does say it’s fibromyalgia, go to a rheumitologist (arthritis dr) for a second opinion.

QUESTION:
disease ???????/??????
Hemorrhagic Hereditary Telangiectasia , idk what it is i just heard about it , how do i detect it and what does the disease do-
ANSWER:
Yes, its a genetic disease. Its also called Osler-Weber-Rendu Syndrome.Its an abnormality of blood vessels. They get malformed. And because of this abnormal structure they have, they easily bleed and are visible as spots on some parts of the body, esp. the mucous membranes.
This can cause a lot of bleeding in some. In some, these malformed vessels in major organs will have an effect on their function.
There is no cure. The problems that arise keep getting solved by doctors and multiple hospital admissions. But that’s all, since there really isn’t any solution on repairing the blood vessels all over the body.

QUESTION:
So… what parts of the bible show that the authors were familiar with the germ theory of disease?
Posted a few minutes ago:“The Bible is proof. It contains food and hygiene laws of our Intelligent Designer’s that are based on His working knowledge of the germ theory of disease and the modern human body 3500 years ago. If our Intelligent Designer knew micro biology in order to write these laws based on the germ theory He also would have known all about manipulating genetics to create and control the living creatures that have inhabited planet Earth including us modern humans.”
Does this refer to any information there was no natural way of observing/obtaining?
Does the book explain that we should always wash our hands before every meal, and that this is done for health reasons, so that it doesn’t apply only to old testament jews?

QUESTION:
What is the definition of a disease, and specifically a mental disease? Has science truly failed?
I think this is the biggest failure of science and generally the world. It is full of imperfections, even though religion is not a better alternative.But, what can you define as a disease; and what can you not? First of all, we have to realize that all humans are different physically. But they should be treated equally on moral basis, and on the basis of humanity (whether its gay ppl, straight ppl, women, old ppl; they should be treated equally on moral grounds).
Because people are different physically; they exhibit different behavior due to the chemistry of their body. Here is where the tricky part comes. What can you categorize as an illness/disease/disorder and what can you not? This is the biggest failure of science: why do you need to categorize things into illnesses and non-illnesses? It is clear you are letting your bias through. Modern feminists define rape that is only committed by a man on a woman. So there come the discrepancies. Why can you not accept behavior that everyone’s behavior is deviant from one another. Why do we have to claim somethings are anomalies, and some are not? I know pedophilia and rape is wrong, but can you categorize is as an illness/disease/disorder? Do we have any proof that pedophilia and rape are not illnesses/diseases/disorders? Is there any proof that homosexuality is not an illness/disease/disorder? I dont think so.
So why do we have to say that pedophilia and rape are done intentionally, when they could very well be ‘illnesses’. And how can we say homosexuality is not a disease/disorder when it could be?
The fact is that these are faulty premises. We cannot categorize things into illnesses/diseases/disorders. Everyone is different from each other physically and psycologically. That is the best way to deal with things. Science cannot even come to a consensus when (at what time period) a child in a mother’s womb is alive; or whether abortion is murder or not (after what stage). So i think science has failed in that aspect.
EDIT:Feminists wants the EXACT same physical rights for women that they want for men. Men and women are different physically, remember that. So I would want rights to be ‘balanced out’ between male and female; and that would constitute as EQUAL rights, not the EXACT SAME rights.
EDITIs there any proof that homosexuality is NOT a disorder/illness. Then why does science say it is NOT a disorder/illness? Is there any proof that pedophilia/rape is NOT a disease.
Please answer these questions, and give me conclusive studies NOT theories for this. Evolution as you like it or not is NOT proven, it is a THEORY. I also mentioned religion is not a better alternative.
-
ANSWER:
Science is science. Medicine is medicine,.Religion is religion. Religion should not mix in often with the first two, and then, only rarely.
None are absolutes, they are always changing and being refined, sometimes out and out shook up and turned on their heads.
You can define plenty of things as illness/ disease and others as disorders.I think you are concentrating on the grey areas of how religion and culture can shape policy and definitions and blaming science for those grey areas. Please remember all areas of science, medicine, religion, and politics are influenced by PEOPLE. People have opinions/beliefs,etc. and those opinions influence how they are going to interpret their work and world outlook. So if you want to blame anyone for the grey areas, blame the people that create them, NOT science.
and as for equal rights, we just want the same opportunities when qualified, and the same pay for the same work.
Please remember ALL people are physically different. Compare Don Knotts to her: http://www.wrestlingkingdom.com/women/women_of_wrestling_good.html and tell me who is physically (strength wise) superior?p.s. this is getting pretty close to a rant which is illegal on yahoo answers. Most of this should be in the philosophy or the R/S section anyway. They are used to this sort of thing there. We usually just answer questions about diseases here.
Evolution- you need to look up what that means, seriously. Are you very young and go to an evangelical church or anything? I see this sort of thing in the RS section all the time, usually by youngsters who haven’t attended 9th grade biology yet. Ok, Have you ever heard of MRSA, VRSA, antibiotic resistant Tuberculosis? Well, there is evolution in action. You also need to look up the scientific definition of Theory is. Here are a few more “the THEORY of GRAVITY” the THEORY of ELECTRICITY”. lol! This is just plain silly, please post elsewhere!

2. What is the prognosis?
3. What can be done to cure or treat symptoms of the disease? (example: medications, therapy, amputation–yikes!)-
ANSWER:
Check out DMD
1. Problem: defective gene resulting in abnormality of the muscle cell membrane scaffolding protein dystrophin. Result progressive muscle wasting and weakness…to the point of wheel chair confinement and eventually to the point where your respiratory muscles aren’t strong enough to breath
2. There’s no cure. Death by their 20′s
3. No meds. rehab therapy, light exercise to promote strength and stamina. Will need a wheel chair. May need surgeries to prevent permanent contraction of the tendons (contractures). May need ventilatory supporthttp://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000705.htm

QUESTION:
What is a disease that is caused by dysfunction in the production of a hormone in an endocrine gland?
What are the symptoms of this disease?
How is this disease treated?
Can this disease be cured completely?-
ANSWER:
Are you thinking , Thyroid? If so, take thyroxin to supplement the deficiency. Otherwise, there are many endocrine hormones that can get out of whack. Some you use drugs to suppress the gland that is overactive which cause another gland to be out of whack. For example. The kidney has an adrenal gland that controls testosterone, so if you have polycystic ovaries, this can cause the adrenal gland to over produce testosterone causing facial hair, deepened voice and excess testosterone in women causing the women not to have menstrual cycles and also cysts on their ovaries. They use a diabetic drug to also control this or a drug called spironolactone. This just shows you how entailed the endocrine system truly is.

QUESTION:
What is a thyroid disease ?Can it be cured permanently or one is required to take medication life long?
Is it a disease or a distubed gland condition which needs one time treatement or life long treatment? Can it be corrected for once and for ever with the modern day medicines? If not treated out of ignorance then what are the extreme harmful effects of the disease? Can any medical professional guide me about this disease as to help me approach the doctor to be guided properly to overcome the problem?-
ANSWER:
I know a few people with thyroid problems and it does require you to take a drug called “synthroid” for the rest of your life. It really isn’t a big deal at all, hopefully you have an over-active thyroid in which case you won’t have to worry about the side effect of weight gain as you do with an under active one. Your primary care doctor should be able to feel if your thyroid is enlarged at the base of your neck, he may or may not refer you to a specialist, depends on your doctor, some primary care doctors can treat the condition. It’s really nothing life threatening and shouldn’t really effect much except possible weight gain or loss, being very tired all the time and other minor problems. Good luck and call your doctor, again, it’s not much to worry about

QUESTION:
What is mitochrondiral disease, and how would the symptoms manifest in a teenager? How is it treated?
An acquaintance told me she had a muscle biopsy a few weeks ago to test for Mitochrondiral disease and will be receiving the results in a few weeks. I’ve never heard of the disease, and it’s insanely late at the moment so my mind is too tired to do a search on it. What exactly is it, what are the symptoms, and how is it treated? Is it chronic and debilitating? She’s just 16 at the moment. I’m hoping it’s not serious.-
ANSWER:
Unfortunately, mitochondrial diseases can be quite serious. Once the disease manifests itself, it is chronic and will usually become more severe as time goes by. There currently is no working treatment. Mitochondrial diseases vary greatly in severity and manifestation, but they can be debilitating, as they generally affect muscles and nerves. Since you need mitochondria in every cell to produce ATP, which provides energy for most of the reactions necessary for life, having a disease that affects them can cause a lot of problems. It mainly affects muscles and nerves since those cells require the most ATP to function normally. The good news is, mitochondrial diseases vary greatly in severity, so if she does have it, hopefully it won’t affect her too badly.

QUESTION:
How did the disease during the Conquest of America have an effect on history?
So I was absent during school and I have to write an essay on this question, just a few notes will be very helpful though. The essay prompt is: Disease has had a dramatic impact on the developement of human history. Describe two specific instances and when and how it has probably changed the course of history. In each example, speculate what might have happened if there had been no diease episode. My instance is the conquest of the Americas with the Spaniards and Aztecs, etc. How did the disease that was brought about have an impact?-
ANSWER:
Many deseases which were common in Europe, were not at all found in the Americas before European settlement. Europeans had some immunity to these and the effect on these was minimal. The native Amaricans (both south and north) had no immunity and the introduction of diseases such as the flu, caused death th many thousands. There were pandemics with millions dead.

QUESTION:
What type of disease does a fish have if he sits at the bottom of the tank?
I have a 45 gallon aquarium with three freshwater parrot ciclids. For the past week, the largest of the tree sits at the bottom and waves his fins normally as if s/he was swimming. The fish’s skin looks normal. He is eating normally and is not behaving any differently than before other than the sitting at the bottom of the tank. When I go to feed them, he swims normally like all of the other fish. About 6 weeks ago, we successfully treated hole in the head disease with this same fish. The water conditions are clean with the temp between 77 and 79 degrees. Anyone have any thoughts on the disease process thaty may be going on here? I appreciate your thoughts in advance!-
ANSWER:
Seems like your fish is suffering from Swim Bladder.Swim or air bladder problems sometimes occur in freshwater fish. I have personally seen this is fancy goldfish such as Orandas, Ryunkins, and Shubunkins and also parrot fish.
When the bladder is effected, the fish will experience equilibrium problems. Sometimes, the problem is not the bladder but other problems which directly affect the bladder. Diseased and inflamed internal organs, improper water conditions or nutrition, and wounds received from fighting with another fish can also effect the equilibrium of the fish. Constipation is also known to affect a fish’s swimming ability! Symptoms: The fish has problems swimming correctly. They may appear to be standing on their head, or have problems removing themselves from the bottom.
At the later stages of the disease, the fish could lose its balance and swim upside down.
Treatment: There is no specific treatment for this dilemma;however, you can try isolating the fish to a quarantine tank in which the water is shallow(this provides relief for the fish). Add one teaspoon of salt per gallon of water. Some individuals will feed thawed out frozen peas and this purges the fish’s system and has been noted to help many fish. After 1-2 weeks a return to the main tank with deeper water may be tried.
The best advice I can give is to maintain proper water conditions, feed your fish a well balanced diet, and possibly try feeding your fish with sinking foods rather than floating types. They won’t inhale so much air this way. The pellets if soaked in water before feeding will expand before the fish eats them and this has helped a lot. Good luck with this!!

QUESTION:
What’s the difference between addiction and disease?
Specifically, I’m talking about alcohol and drugs. An alcoholic is said to have a disease. People who have problems with illicit drugs like cocaine, marijuana, heroin, etc, and even legal drugs like pain killers are said to be addicts. What’s the difference? Isn’t alcoholism a form of chemical dependency (addiction). Why is illicit drug dependency not seen as a disease? Is the difference because alcohol is socially acceptable? I submit that an alcoholic is an addict and not necessarily diseased, though liver disease may be present or coming.
Ok! I know that with a disease you have no choice. Since to drink alcohol or not is a choice WHY IS ALCOHOLISM A DISEASE? and drug abuse is not?
I know the reasons for substance abuse, no matter the substance. But WHY IS ALCHOLISM A DISEASE? while drug addiction is not?
Ok, a disease can be treated with medications or surgery. There are medications to help stop smoking and to help stop drinking and to help stop drug abuse. But you don’t answer the question WHY IS ALCOHOL ABUSE A DISEASE WHILE DRUG ABUSE IS NOT? or WHY IS DRUB ABUSE AN ADDICTION AND ALCOHOL ABUSE IS A DISEASE?-
ANSWER:
Terry, be patient with me, I am getting to my point in all caps below but I wanted to put some of this other info in also that I researched.If alcoholism is a disease (and it classified as a disease as you know), it must be a mental illness. The mentally ill often deny they are ill and the first identification of a mental illness is often when others notice that the afflicted person is behaving in unconventional, bizarre or self-destructive ways.
Like other mental illnesses, there is no blood or urine test for alcoholism. There is no physical marker the healer can look for to identify the disease. All the signs are behavioral.
There are blood and urine tests for other drugs. I can’t find anything where there is something in alcohol that causes you to become addicted like say cocaine or nicotine, etc. Wow, the more I search the more unanswered questions!
MAYBE IT IS BECAUSE THEY CANNOT PIN POINT WHAT THE ADDICITON FACTOR ITSELF IS (OR WHAT CHEMICAL CAUSES THE ADDICTION) WITHIN THE ALCOHOL SO THEY CALL IT A DISEASE??? AND THEY CAN PIN POINT WHAT THE ADDICTION FACTORS (OR WHAT CHEMICAL THAT CAUSES THE ADDICTION) WITH OTHER DRUGS LIKE COCAINE, HEROIN, NICOTINE ETC, SO THEY CALL THAT AN ADDICITON AND NOT A DISEASE???? This is my personal opinion, I cannot find any information to back this up, but to me it makes some sense.
It is a disease because it has been declared to be so by the very ones who profess to have the cure for the disease. Actually, they don’t have a “cure.” They have a remedy.
Again, not a black and white answer, I wish I knew definitely for sure also. Oh well, I/we tried.

QUESTION:
What disease makes a person constantly tired and have a constant sore throat?
Hi about a month ago I had a really bad illness. I had a high fever, aches everywhere and was just very cold. All those syptoms vanishes after having Antibiotic for a good three days but soon after I had this feeling of being generally tired and seeming to yawn very frequently. And every morning I wake up with a sore throat, but it usually goes away in about an hour after waking up. I was wondering if there is a disease that has these certain symptoms? thanks.-
ANSWER:
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome seems like it fits your description pretty well: extreme tiredness is the main symptom, but sleep issues and problems with concentrating are also common complaints. CFS may also cause headaches, muscle and joint pains, a sore throat, or swollen glands.Doctors have not determined a specific cause, but CFS may begin after another illness (such as the flu). Treatment is still trial and error based and I’m not a doctor so make sure you check in with your own physician before making any decisions. Good Luck.

What disease are caused by bacteria that have axial filament?
I know that is one of three or possibly all of these; Lyme Disease, gonorrhea or syphilis.-
ANSWER:
Axial filaments are a type of flagella that are wrapped around the bacterial cell rather than extending from it. They are characteristic of some spirochete bacteria – those whose cells have a spiral or coiled shape. Of your three diseases, Lyme disease and syphilis are both caused by spirochetes. You can read more about this group and find links to both diseases here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spirochaete

QUESTION:
What disease causes the body to quit producing vitamin B resulting in blood clots on the lungs?
Blood clots on lungs and the body is not producing vitamin B. I can’t recall the disease but heard of it. Any ideas?-
ANSWER:
A lack or a deficiency of Vit B 6 may be related to seizures, chronic pain, depression, headaches and, Parkinsons’s Disease.
Basically, a deficiency of Vitamin B6, folic acid or, Vitamin B 12 may increase your level of homocysteine, an amino acid normally found in your blood.
An increase in homocysteine is an independent risk factor for heart disease & stroke. High levels may damage coronary ( heart) arteries or make it easier for ** blood clotting cells( platelets) to clump together & form a clot.
Here are two websites that are quite informative:http://www.cure4cancer.com/products/b6.html

I hope that this info is helpful.
As far as any specific disorder ( or a disease name) that causes blood clots on the lungs due to a lack of ” vitamin B “, I’m uncertain as to such a known, specific disorder.

QUESTION:
Disease in Raccoons that is transmittable to dogs that is not rabies?
Someone asked a question about baby raccoons and her dog and one person responded that there is a disease that is fatal and transmittable from raccoon to dogs, but didn’t say what this disease was. Now Im sure he isn’t referring to rabies, so what is this disease? What are the symptoms?-
ANSWER:
“Coon paralysis” is one that I have heard of. I don’t think it’s the same as leptospirosis since that affects the kidneys and liver, and coon paralysis attacks the nervous system. I think it’s transmitted through the saliva(bites) it’s been awhile since I heard of the case, but do know that it took over 6 months for the dog to get full use of his legs again.added: found some info:
coon paralysis: the cause is unknown, but believed to be an immune-mediated disease with antibodies directed at the dog’s own peripheral nerves. It may be a virus or bacteria.
It occurs most often in hunting dogs or dogs who have direct contact with raccoons. Signs of the disease show up one to two weeks after contact. Paralysis begins as weakness in the hindquarters, and progresses forward until the dog is unable to stand. The paralysis can affect muscles involved in respiration and swallowing.Full recovery can take weeks or months.

QUESTION:
What is the best way to counteract an autoimmune disease?
I used to have Grave’s disease, which is autoimmune, until I had my thyroid gland removed. Now, I believe I have rheumatoid arthritis, which is also an autoimmune disease. Is there some way that I can build up my body so that it doesn’t attack itself? What would be the best diet and/or supplements to get rid of an autoimmune disease? My husband also has an autoimmune disease, so we are both very interested in finding the answers. Thanks!-
ANSWER:
My sister has rheumatoid arthritis and my nephew was born with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. The dr.s said my nephew would either be almost healed or he would be dead by 17 and that alot could depend on his diet and life style. My sister took him to a kinesiologist (don’t know how to spell it but that’s what it sounds like) which is a vitamin and mineral specialist. He is now 14 and the only problem he seems to have is the arthritic pain in his knees. He gets sick maybe once every 2 – 3 years and has never gotten seriously ill. My sisters arthritis in her fingers seem to be her only issue and she never gets sick I can not remember the vitamins that my sister has them on but they definitely work. If you would like to email me I will ask my sister for you and let you know which vitamins they both take. AND DRINK A LOT OF WATER!! It is super important
