There are different circumstances that may trigger inflammatory processes within the body. Sometimes it’s the damaged tissue that causes the condition, while in other cases it’s an infection that makes the body r 00004000 espond with inflammation. Genetic predisposition also has a bi weight in the development of inflammatory conditions, as health problems like rheumatoid arthritis are known to pass from parents to children. What you eat and where you live can also be the cause of the problem, as the food may contain germs that cause inflammation and your environment can also be a major contributing factor with lots of pollutant substances affecting your health in general. The foods that are closely associated with inflammatory processes include saturated fats, oils, fatty acids and sugar. So if you want to reduce your exposure to inflammation factors you should definitely avoid fast food, prefabricated meals, fast food, sugar-based drinks and sweets. If you want to avoid inflammation due to foods, you should eat the kind of food that is beneficial for your health in general. Besides preventing the development of inflammation, such foods will generally improve your health and make you feel much better. So pay attention to what you put on the plate, if you do not want to struggle from inflammatory problems later. The elements required for reducing inflammation include quercetin, capsacain, bromelain, omega 3 fatty acids, gingerols, , and curcumin. These substances are generally found in ginger, spices, turmeric and chili peppers. So if you want to reduce inflammation the natural way without using drugs like Prednisone, the following five types of food will certainly help you out: 1. Fruits like cherry and apples have a high content of quercetin that will help reduce any inflammation. 2. Vegetables like kale, cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli will also be very helpful in stopping inflammation. 3. The bad breath duo – onion and garlic – are on the other hand very helpful in reducing inflammation. Besides being very rich in quercetin, both onion and garlic also have antibiotic properties that are very beneficial in treating many health conditions that involve inflammation. 4. Pineapples have a high content of bromelain and therefore help stopping inflammatory conditions. Besides being very tasty, pineapples also help relieving pain and swelling associated with inflammation. 5. Omega 3 oils contained in certain types of fish such as salmon, herring, mackerel and sardines are not only beneficial for reducing inflammation but are known to improve the health in general. So not you know which types of food offer natural anti-inflammation action. Of course, when there’s severe inflammation it’s better to use special drugs such as Prednisone. But if you are uncertain, or your condition is not that severe, it’s much better to go the natural way. Moreover, by eating these types of food you will be able to improve your health in general, and that’s certainly a very positive side effect that no medication will offer. The choice is up to you, but you will certainly select the most beneficial way of reducing inflammation available.

QUESTION:
Does the the inflammation of the liver causes pain in your stomach?
I went to the doctor and he did me an ultra sound. When he got the results he told me I had liver inflammation. For several years I’ve been having some strange and painful stomachaches is this the cause of my inflammation of liver? I would like to know so I can know what to do for it.-
ANSWER:
No, liver inflammation causes no pain. The liver itself has no nerve endings, therefore, no pain. That’s why people can have cirrhosis of the liver and not even know it. I had no idea anything was wrong with me until my liver was already 90% destroyed due to many many years of constant inflammation caused by an autoimmune disease. The only way I knew something was wrong was because I suddenly swelled up with a lot of fluid. I had liver failure and a liver transplant and never experienced any liver pain. Now there is a sac around the liver that can cause some pain, but it never gave me any problems. People are just not aware when their liver is inflamed because they have no symptoms. By the time any physical symptoms of liver failure appears, the failure is often far advanced. What can you do about it? Find out the real reason your stomach hurts. What can you do about liver inflammation? It depends on what is causing it to inflame in the first place. If you can get rid of whatever is irritating it, then the inflammation will go away. Example: If alcohol abuse is causing it, then stop drinking and it should go away as long as no permenent liver damage has been done yet such as cirrhosis. Example: My liver inflammation was caused by an autoimmune disease in which there is nothing I can do to stop it. It depends on the cause and whether or not you can get rid of the irritant.
You need to discuss this with your doctor and find out what your options are for treating both problems such as your stomach and inflamed liver. I’m no doctor, but in my opinion they are going to be two separate problems in which both need addressed. You should not have to go for years with stomach pain and not know what is causing it. Hopefully, you can get the help you need by following up with your doctor and demanding some answers. If this doctor cannot help you, then find one who will.

QUESTION:
What is the relationship between exercise and inflammation in the body?
What is the relationship between exercise and inflammation (the inflammatory response to antigens or tissue damage; and inflammatory states or processes in general) in the body?-
ANSWER:
Many scientists have expressed concern that hard exercise damages muscles, so it may turn on inflammation and harm you. However, a study from Verona, Italy shows that hard exercise does not cause inflammation. Inflammation is a healthy process that comes to the body’s aid when it’s injured.
Delayed onset muscle soreness is thought to be a result of microscopic tearing of the muscle fibers. Muscles soreness stems from small tears in the muscle fibers that are aggravated by post-exercise muscle cell inflammation. When tissue cells become injured they release a number of chemicals that initiate the inflammatory response. Examples of these are kinins, prostroglandins and histamine. These chemicals work collectively to cause increased vasodilation (widening of blood capillaries) and permeability of the capillaries. This leads to increased blood flow to the injured site. These substances also act as chemical messengers that attract some of the body’s natural defense cells- a mechanism known as chemotaxis.
Although highly beneficial to the body’s defense strategies some chemicals also increase the sensitivity of the pain fibres in the area and so the area becomes painful.
Chemotaxis leads to the migration of certain white blood cells (leukocytes) to the damaged area. Two types of leukocyte are predominantly in the inflammatory response- macrophages and neutrophils. Neutrophils are first to the injured site and function by neutralizing harmful bacteria. Macrophages aid the healing process by engulfing bacteria and dead cells and ingesting them so that the area is clear for new cells to grow. They arrive at the injured site within 72 hours of the injury and may remain in the area for weeks after the injury.

QUESTION:
How high do sedimentation rates go in someone with lots of inflammation?
It looks like anything under 20 or so is normal. But how high is a fairly high number in someone with active inflammation? In something like Lupus, what is an average value if there’s something going on? How high is *high*, what’s the highest you’ve heard of them going?-
ANSWER:
There is a maximimum value for sed rates(ESR for short) that is dependent on the technique/instrumentation used to measure it. Generally it is around 140mm/hr. I’m afraid that there is no real good answer to what is high in someone with active inflammation. The upper limit of normal is about 20 for men and a little higher for women(around 30) but it also increases with age. It is difficult to answer how high is high with active inflammation. Some have described an “extremely high” range as >100 which is thought to be seen primarily in infection, malignancy, renal disease, and inflammatory disorders(like lupus). However, this does not mean that having that high of an ESR means you have to have one of these conditions nor does having a lower value exclude these conditions. For an illness such as lupus it is most helpful to determine what your baseline values are when you are not having flare ups and when you are. This helps your physician use this test as a gage to try and determine the progress of your illness, diagnosis of flare ups, and effectiveness of treatment particularly during flare ups. In other words: it’s importance is to find your “normal” to follow over time as it can be very different from someone else’s because of the high variability in severity and in which organs/tissues are affected in those with lupus.A little about the test itself. It is measured in mm/hr because it is essentially the rate at which the red cells settle out of suspension due to gravity in a well mixed slightly diluted sample of blood. So the test is limited by the height of the column used to measure it. Generally, the test has not been shown to provide very useful information at values higher then the 100-140 range enough to lengthen the columns used to measure it past that point. You might try going to the link below to get some more basic info about this test. You will notice the lack of specific values – because there just isn’t a given value that we can say “an elevation of this much means this is what is specifically happening to you” without putting it together with the rest of your symptoms and tests. Hope this helps.
P.S. I perform this test regularly(but don’t usually know each individuals exact diagnosis while performing it) and don’t often see values greater then 110.

QUESTION:
Are there any good long term diet changes that I could make that would reduce inflammation?
I eat everything in moderation as it is, so don’t give me that advice. I already follow a diabetic diet because its the only one I’ve found that has good guidelines of what foods go together and are low in fat and sugar. Now it appears that I might need to find some that are lower in sodium? I also need to find some that are know to actually reduce inflammation. I tried the Schwarzbein diet, but I couldn’t stay on that forever!-
ANSWER:
I started something new that focuses on one of the main chemicals that causes inflammation, called prostaglandins. These are known as “local hormones” that get made in various parts of the body, and start acting where they were made (instead of more active hormones that are released in the bloodstream and go everywhere). They are formed by ingesting various types of fats, and their purpose is related to what kind of fat they were made from. Some prostaglandins stimulate inflammation (these are what inspired COX2 inhibitors/antiarthritis drugs; they prevent formation of prostaglandins) while others signal the need for reduced inflammation. The process of forming proinflammatory/anti-inflammatory prostaglandins seems to be competitive between the presence of Omega-3 or Omega-6 fatty acids. Omega-6 are found in most vegetable oil (corn, soy, safflower, sunflower, etc) and are converted to pro-inflammatory prostaglandins… while Omega-3 fatty acids are abundant in fish, flax seed oil, etc. The ratio of more Omega-3 to less Omega-6 seems to be the most important in controlling which type of prostaglandin is produced. Good luck!

QUESTION:
I have knee arthritis. What medicine works best to relieve pain and inflammation?
Important!! I am allergic to aspirin type pain killers so I cant have it.
Is there any natural remedy to reduse the inflammation?-
ANSWER:
I’m assuming you have osteoarthritis? If you have some sort of autoimmune inflammatory arthritis you need to see a rheumatologist. There are medications called DMARDs given to people with this sort of arthritis. Are you allergic to all NSAIDs? If not, you could try Aleve or Advil. They are effective in reducing pain and inflammation.
You could try a topical NSAIDs cream or gel or applying ice or heat to the knees.
There are also anti-inflammatory diets, you may want to look into it. Some people swear by it.
You might also find relief from a corticosteroid injection into the joint or having it aspirated.
Good luck!

QUESTION:
Would bursitis show up as inflammation in my blood work?
I’ve had some hip issues on and off after an injury years ago. Usually the pain only when I performed “rigorous activity” (when I attempt to run on a treadmill or ride a bike after not exercising for months) and it was pretty temporary – it would only hurt during the activity and on and off for a few days afterward. My hips (bursitis) started “acting up” more frequently so I went to the doctor and was told I have hypermobility in many of my joints, including my hips which. He said this causes me to be more easily injured due to overextension (and weak surrounding muscles). He also ran some blood work to check for inflammation (just in case I had arthritis) and it came out clean – no sign of inflammation. What I forgot to ask is if this means that I don’t really have bursitis after all, but just some pain caused from overworking the joints. If I had bursitis, would this have shown up as inflammation in my blood work?-
ANSWER:
Yes. Bursitis would cause inflammation and would therefore show up in your bloodwork.

What could be the cause/s of recurrence of sinus inflammation?
I have been having sinus inflammation for three consecutive months now. First history in October, then November and now. You know the scary part! am having bloody mucus coming out of my nose. I used Reactine in Oct, i was on antibiotics in November and now am on Reactine again. I really want to know what the cause is. And beside am i on the right treatment for this ( Sinus inflammation).-
ANSWER:
My husband uses this to keep from getting bronchitis when he gets a sinus infection, and I use it to cure sinus infections. THere are many kinds of bacteria that live in the sinuses, and this gets rid of all the bad ones!.This is the only thing that really helped me — my Dr. told me about a sinus wash that will kill bacteria.
you needdistilled water
sea salt
liquid chlorophyll and colloidal silver from the health food store.
in a glass mix 1/4 cup water with a pinch of salt and heat to body temperature.
add 5 drops each silver and chlorophyll and mix.
using a large dropper (like one used for infant medication) drop 2 full droppersfull into one side of the nose while laying down.
Turn the head and let it drain out the other nostril. Be sure to have paper towels handy. or just use a neti pot, I like this better.
The silver kills the bacteria and there are several hundred kind that can live in the sinus cavities and anti biotics don’t get rid of them all.
Do this twice a day for a week, mixing up the mixture fresh each time.
Then do it once a week for maintenance.
There is nothing in this that will hurt you, and it cured me.
I do not have to take claritin, or antibiotics anymore.
best wishes

QUESTION:
What causes inflammation of the pancreas?
My friend is only about 28 years old and he said he has an inflamed pancreas. What is the root cause? Hereditary? Too much drinking?-
ANSWER:
I believe it might be because of his drinking habits. First of all, alcohol is not recommended for any people at all as it causes liver damage and other bad things. Also, since he is 19, he would be very vulnerable to heavy drinking or so called ‘binge drinking’. Just make sure your friend doesn’t have to much alcohol and limit him as a friend would do. The best thing however, would be for him to quit for life as it is a waste of money and causes health problems. Just think of it. Your friend is buying himself a disease or possibly death or a life of endless drugs, alcohol and violence. Take care.

QUESTION:
What are the different variables for inflammation that are looked for in lab work?
I have rheumatoid arthritis and I get lab work every three months, but I never really have ever known what it is they are looking at when they check my lab work. A friend of mine says there are three different things they look at. What are they, and what are the normal ranges.-
ANSWER:
It really depends what your doctor orders. The usual tests for inflammatory are ESR and CRP.
They both tests for inflammation in the blood, so it may not pick up inflammation in the joints.
The ESR (or Sed Rate) test is an older test to measure inflammation. It’s slower, in a sense that it can take a month for your tests to change based on inflammation in the body.
The CRP is a newer test. It is a lot quicker and can detect inflammation in 6 hours.
Your doctor might also test your Complete Blood Count.
This website has heaps of information about blood tests for different conditions and what they mean- http://www.labtestsonline.org/understanding/conditions/rheumatoid-2.html
I like to keep a copy of my lab results, and I recommend you do the same. In the past my doctor has ignored things that are elevated while telling me it was normal. It’s also interesting for you to compare them. If you need to get a second opinion or see a different doctor for some reason you have a history of your lab results. They’re usually really easy to interpret. You’ll have a number, for example 80, which is your reading, then in brackets they’ll have what’s considered a normal range i.e. (0-20). So it’ll look like 80 (0-20) and you’ll know that you’re test is really high.
Normal ranges depends on what the lab you had them tested say. They all have their own scale. You’ll need to ask the doctor.
Good luck, I’m sorry you’re stuck with this terrible disease.

QUESTION:
What are alternatives to surgery if you have gallstones and inflammation?
I really want to avoid surgery, but I don’t even know if that is an option. it is pretty severe. Sometimes, the pain gets so bad, I cry.-
ANSWER:
Actually, there’s really nothing much to the surgery. I had a lapascopy(not sure of spelling) it’s where they use a camera. All they did,was to cut 4 tiny incisions which are not noticable at all unless I point them out. If you opt for the surgery, it’s usually just an overnight stay and you’re good to go home the next morning unless there are unforseen complications like in my case. Don’t mean to scare you but I had unforseen complications but this is very very rare. It was only because I was already in such grave(no pun intended)condition. I thought I was just suffering from real bad heartburn so by the time I took my self to the emergency room, my gallbaldder was about to burst, so I was rushed into surgery and the doctor doing it didn’t get the whole infection out or something. But you should have nothing to worry about. I was a rare case. Everyone else I seen in the hospital during my stay went home the next day just feeling fine and dandy. Good luck in whatever you decide. I would opt for the surgery now before your condition worsens like mine did.

QUESTION:
What is a good natural inflammation reducer?
I just recently has a bunion removal surgery on my foot and I’m taking some prescribed ibuprofen as a anti-inflammatory, but it doesn’t seem to work all that well. Is there something natural i can take alongside it to help it?-
ANSWER:
There are a number of anti-inflammatory nutrients out there that would work differently than Ibuprofen… but they wouldn’t necessarily be stronger. In fact, drugs prevent the inflammation (a natural and healthy healing response) while supplements would just help the blood flow better and/or help the healing more… I could list a few, but any of them might not be enough to help what you’re looking for.My best recommendation would be to discuss other options with your doctor or at least a doctor that knows about nutrition. Good luck and I hope I helped!

QUESTION:
What is the difference between allergy, inflammation, and infection?
And what effect would those differences have on the actions of a consumer?-
ANSWER:
An allergy is a histamine reaction to a substance, usually a protein. This reaction can (usually) include inflammation. Inflammation is the reddening of an area of the body, usually accompanied by swelling, caused by increased blood flow to the area. Inflammation is part of the body’s healing and defense mechanism.
An infection is the response to an infectious organism. This organism is causing a disease. It can be localized (such as a boil) or systemic. Most “infections” are caused by bacteria. Some infections can be accompanied by inflammation. What this has to do with being a consumer, I am not sure, unless you are talking about OTC products and what should you get, or about what sort of medical treatment or professional you should seek.
If you have an allergy, you would take an anti-histamine, either OTC or by prescription.
If you have an infection, and it is caused by a bacteria, you would take an antibiotic. If it is caused by a fungus, you would need an antifungal compound or drug. If it is caused by a virus, there is little medicine can do for you. If it is serious, an immune boosting substance can be prescribed. There are some Traditional Chinese medicines that show strong anti-viral properties. If you have an inflammation, you could take an anti-inflammatory drug or substance. However, unless you know the cause of the inflammation, you should seek out professional diagnosis, so you don’t mask something that could be serious. If you banged your arm and there is a small bruise, a topical anti-inflammatory could be used, if you suspect injury to the bone, see a doctor before you take anything.

QUESTION:
what causes inflammation, high protein in urine and elevated liver?
Went to doctor and had blood urine test and this is what the nurse said. I also have lupus so I was wondering if this could just be because of that.-
ANSWER:
This is a direct result of your Lupus. Three of the major symptoms of SLE are what you have placed in your question. Protein in the urine suggests that your kidney’s are being attacked by the Lupus. Elevated liver enzymes could be because of the medications you’re taking (if you’re on any) and/or as a result of the Lupus attacking the liver as well. Additionally, inflammation is often the chief complaint of people with Lupus, this is why their joints ache.Have you been educated about your Lupus? It sounds like you have not as the questions you’re asking are pretty simplistic for someone with a diagnosis. I’m not trying to be uppity but I think you really need to revisit the diagnosis with your doctor and have them explain to you exactly what Lupus is (an auto immune disease) so that you can become informed as to what is going on with your body.
These new symptoms are major problems indicating that your Lupus is flaring. It is time to get with your doctor and figure out what course of action needs to be taken.

QUESTION:
What are some natural means of reducing inflammation?
I recently hurt my shoulder in a tennis match after hitting a serve. The doctor said to load up on Advil but the improvement I get from the Advil is disproportionate to the drowsiness I experience and the bad temperament that results. My shoulder only hurts when I’m on the court so it seems inappropriate to be taking the Advil off the court too (as the doctor said I should). I appreciate any suggestions for natural solutions!-
ANSWER:
Omega 3 fatty acids (fish oil), borage oil (gamma linolenic acid), magnesium, turmeric (curcumin), ginger the digestive enzyme bromelain (found in the stem of pineapple)… you can also try glucosamine and chondroitin. If you are looking for another drug option, my mom had great relief from Aleve more than Advil. I don’t take any of that, but she liked how it worked for her.

QUESTION:
Chronic inflammation of body tissues, is this a disease?
If a person has chronic inflammation of different parts of their bodies, is this a disease that can be treated? I know arthritis is inflammation of joints, but this is soft tissue, like ears, bowel, organs, throat, etc. Also, if this is a syndrome or disease, what is the treatment? Is it hereditary?-
ANSWER:
The immune system can attack just about any part of the body and cause inflammation. Examples of medical ailments that do this besides rheumatoid arthritis are lupus, fibromyalgia, and sarcoidosis. Lupus is one that is capable of affecting a wide array of different tissues. The cause of autoimmune diseases are generally not known. There seems to be at least some genetic pre-disposition for autoimmune disorders, but they are definitely not inherited as a single trait, such as eye color. Since the cause of autoimmune disorders are not known, there is no treatmetn other than symptomatic relief using analgesics, anti inflammatory drugs, or immunosuppressants.

QUESTION:
What is the best way to soothe a sore throat and reduce lymph gland inflammation?
I have a sore throat, no appetite, swollen neck (lymph) glands, ear pain and nausea- HELP!-
ANSWER:
i am sick with the same exact thing at this very moment!
for the sore throat take a spone full of sugar and let it slowly desoovle under your tung!
nausy- i have a trick…..Take a Nap. Taking a nap might rid you of nausea, but if it dosn’t, taking a nap helps you with step two.
Go Somewhere Quiet. If the nausea didn’t go away, for the alternative method of getting rid of it, you need to be in a surronding where you can focus the most, for example your bedroom.
Focus on your Mind. As I said in the last article, you need to focus on your mind. Think of nothing for now, clear your mind of distracting thoughts. In this step they can not help you.
Concentrate on Relaxing Thoughts. Now once you completely ridded your mind of those thoughts, make an image in your head of a quiet, serene scene. Focus only on that, not on your nausea. Have a little mind slideshow of peaceful places.
Concentrate, again. Yes, you will need to concentrate even more. This time focus ON your nausea and nothing else. Then focus on it fading away (focus on the feeling you had, another time you had nausea and just threw up, that feeling). Just keep feeling it slip away until your body nor mind feels it. Keep in that state for a couple of minutes. After that you should feel, at least, much better.also try eating crackers and warm milk witha little bit of chocolate in it(syrup)
it is helping me so i hope it helps you!
