     You could be anaemic. Try pulling down your lower eylid. If that is very pale, then you are anaemic and need iron supplements. If your inner lower eyelid is normal pink colour, then something else is the cause.

   What does it mean if a cat has white gums?
   My kitty is acting tired and is sleeping a lot. He is hardly eating or using the restroom. I just checked inside his mouth and his gums are white. He has been tested for Feline AIDS and leukemia. The tests were negative. Can you please give me some suggestions as to what is wrong and to make him more comfortable. I will be taking him to the Vet tomorrow. Thank you in advance.
   My cat is about 6 months old. He is an indoor cat and has not had any trauma that I am aware of. He is walking with his back legs sort of stiff like he is uncomfortable. When I pet him, he purrs, but he is just not acting like himself. He is just staying in his little house. He has drank a little water and some warm milk.

     Hi Maddie…this means your cat is very dehydrated, which is causing the lethargy, excessive sleeping, lack of appetite. Gums and the nose (if it’s a pink one) will change to a white colouration when a cat becomes dedyrated. d

     Cats can become dehydrated for many reasons including illness, accidental ingestion of toxins inside our outside of the home, fever, infection, vomiting, diarrhea, diabetes, and kidney problems, etc. You can tell if your cat is dehydrated by doing the ‘pinch’ test. Take a bit of skin on the cats back and pinch it, let go and see how long it takes for the skin to retract back to its normal spot. The skin should be extremely elastic and immediately bounce back, if it takes more than a second or two your cat is probably dehydrated.

     Symptoms to look for:
     - Dry nose
     - Dry mouth or eyes
     - ‘Pinch’ test
     - Severe thirst
     - Lethargy

     Treatment:

     In more serious situations your cat may need to be given fluids subcutaneously (SubQ) or intravenously (IV).

   What are some causes of white gums and pain (I have no teeth or dentures just my gums)?

   For some reason, just a little bit of my gum turns white near my lower teeth after i brush my teeth with hydrogen peroxide and then rinse. It goes away after a minute or so but does this mean I’m destroying my gums or is it normal?
   Pure hydrogen peroxide will melt my teeth you crazy lady. The stuff in the brown bottle is only 3%

     Hydrogen peroxide is good to use in the mouth when there is any soreness or other indication of infection. You can overdo it though. Confine your use to times when you need it. BTW, don’t swallow it.

9. QUESTION:
   Why are these crest white strips burning my gums?
   I had just brushed my teeth and when I put them on my top teeth it felt like they were cutting my gums and I took it off and my gums were white so I rinsed my mouth with water. Now the thing is…these strips are like…really old…like months old so that may be why…but if thats not why and it’s another reason then I don’t want to buy them again. Any suggestions?

     my gums started burning after i used them alot so i stopped because your really only suppost to use teeth whiteners like once a year because after a while it starts to eat away the enamel of your teeth and it makes your teeth more sensitive.

     also in the instructions it says not to use the white strips directly after brushing your teeth. so maybe that could be it to.

     and your gums were white probably because theres peroxide in the strips.

    White gums and wisdom teeth coming in?
    I just noticed that where teeth 17 & 32 (my bottom wisdom teeth) are supposed to come in, the gums are extremely white. Is that normal? I am going to the dentist Tuesday for something totally unrelated. Does he need to look at this or is it normal?

      well i hate to tell you this but my father in laws pitt bull was 12 years old and was peeing in the house and loose bm when they went to the vet the vet said white gums could mean internal bleeding somewhere and they found out she had cancer in the uterus and had to be put to sleep,,,hope thats not your situation but dont wait for the vet take it to the dog hospital asap,we have one in philadelhia its universary of Penn hosp for animals emergencys…..goooood luck….

    My gums turned white after the third day of using crest whitestrips- is this normal and will it go?
    A bit of my gum has turned white where my front teeth are from using crest whitestrips, but the rest is ok, just a bit sensitive. Will it go away?

    • ANSWER:
      Don’t worry, this is normal. I have personally used whitening products and when the chemicals touch your gums they can leave a white outline of your gum tissue. This WILL go away, depending on how your body reacts and heals, it could take some time. Mine went away in a couple of hours. Make sure as soon as you remove the strips to gently clean around your gums to remove any residue. Also, try using them every other day if the gums/teeth are too sensitive. The whitening strips are a “one size fits all” type of thing so of course they may not be a perfect fit and could reach higher up to your gums around the front teeth. Maybe you could try slightly trimming your strips where it looks like they would touch your gumline. See if that works. It wouldn’t hurt. I’ve also found a website that might be a bit helpful. Hope everything goes well.

    Is it normal for your gums to turn white when whitening teeth?
    My gums have become sensitive while using the prodoct. This is the second day I used the Wal-Mart brand teeth whitening strips. It says that sensitivity on the gums happens and I should discontinue after 3 days of sensitivity. So, it’s ok that my gums are sensitive but at the edge where my gum outlines my tooth its white.

      Your gums are turning white because of the whitening product. If you try to not get the gel on your gums, they shouldn’t keep turning white. Try putting vaseline on just your gums before you put the strips on.

    Should my gums be white after wisdom teeth extraction?
    I got my wisdom teeth extracted about 48 hours ago. I have no pain and have stopped bleeding. I did not get stitched, but have noticed that on my bottom jaw where my two wisdom teeth were, the gum has turned white. It doesn’t look like puss or the bone, but I am still not sure if this is normal?

    • ANSWER:
      This is 100% normal. The early stage immature healing tissue will collect plaque and that is why it appears white. Don’t poke at it or you’ll disturb the clot and also may cause infection. Just keep on the gentle warm saline rinses for a few more days and everything will be fine. Good luck.

    I accidentally got tooth whitening bleach on my gums and now they’re white. What should I do?
    I got tooth whitening stuff from my dentist. I put the moulds on and after 5 minutes it hurt quite a bit. i looked in the mirror and saw that my gums were white. I quickly took the moulds off and wiped off the bleach so that there was none left on my gums but they are still white. What should I do?

      Nothing. It’s the peroxide and it will go away. The same thing would have happened if you had brushed your teeth with liquid peroxide. Give it 20 minutes or so, rinsing your mouth with plain water may speed the process.

    Is it normal to have some of my gums turn a white color after using Aqua Fresh whitening trays?
    I just used them for a second time and in like 4 places, (very small) but my gums in those places became white. It is freaking me out and I don’t know what to do. My teeth are really sensitive and I know that it is only a temporary thing, but I don’t know what to do. What happened?

      If you put the white strips on your gums(the paste on the strips has a bleach in it) it has the possibility to color your gums, it should go away really quickly by just eating and drinking things

    After using teeth whitening strips some parts of my gums turn white. Is this normal?
    The gum right above my tooth is where it turns white. And kinda numb. Is this just because of the strips or does it means something is wrong?

      just a little bit where the strip was is normal and it should return to normal color within 30 minutes and it maybe tender. if it doesn’t return to normal coloring fairly quickly, you should talk to your dentist.

      This is not uncommon towards the end of a pregnancy. Her body is supporting not only herself, but several puppies as well. Think of how many more vessels that blood has to go through. Keep an eye on it, but I wouldn’t worry about it a whole lot.

      People – please quit answering questions when you obviously do not know the answer, it is not helpful to the questioner! It is not shock, protein levels, or low iron. She is anemic because her blood is also supporting the babies. It is NOT UNCOMMON at the end of a pregnancy!

20. QUESTION:
    A week after wisdom tooth removal, white gums around the area,normal?
    I had my 2 lower wisdom teeth removed a week ago, and it hasnt been tooooo bad. however im still quite sore and swollen around the areas of extraction, and ive noticed on one side the gum around the area is white, is this normal? My teeth were impacted so my gums were cut, could this be why its white? Im a little worried

      That is absolutely normal. Sounds like you’re healing great. Your gums turn white when they are healing. As long as you are not in pain, I wouldn’t even call the dentist.

    My gums turned white from bleaching tray?
    I am new at using bleach trays from my dentist and this is my third night using them. I brushed my teeth and bled a tiny bit but let it go because it happens occasionally when I brush. I continued with the bleach trays and there are two spots between my teeth where my gums have turned completely white and in the beginning it hurt. What should I do?

      this is what dentist.net has to say about it:

      Either your trays are covering the gum area or you overfilled the trays. All you need is either to place a small droplet in each tooth or a bleach line midway across the inner outer wall of the tray. The gums will return to normal in a few hrs i.e. the whiteness will disappear. Avoid any further bleaching until healed. Avoid hot and spicy foods till then. Next time use less and use for 15 minutes and then increase the time on subsequent bleaching periods.

    What are the possible causes of off-pink, white, or whitish gums?
    My 16 year old brother (who is a cigarette smoker) has very faded off-pink or whitish gums. I know healthy gums should be pink, but his gums are a bit too pale to be pink, more like white in color. I’m worried and would like to know if he should see a dentist or a doctor. I read somewhere that this could happen if someone has a high white-blood cell count or an autoimmune disease… is this true? He is 6′ tall, weighs 148 lbs, and has fair skin. Thanks!

      It’s a symptom of a lot of blood problems in general. It can indicate bleeding from ulcers, cancer, but it also includes aenemia caused by low iron. Is he a vegetarian or has he been growing very quickly or donating blood? That would explain it.

      Basically make him take iron supplements for a while and see if the situation improves, unless he has frequent stomach aches or a very dark or red stool (excrements) or some other unexpliccable health problems in which case, get him to a doctor asap.

    how come when i got my braces off my gums are white right under my tooth?
    ok i got my braces off and now under my tooth my gums are white and i have flossed them and i have brushed them but the whiteness wont come off.why?

      This is caused by the pressure of the braces that you recently had on. As time progresses, the white will go and your gums will be back to normal again. It just takes a while for the gums to relax and for them to adjust to not having pressure applied to the area anymore.

    What’s the best toothpaste to make your gums pink and make your teeth white?
    What’s the best toothpaste to make your teeth white and make your gums pink? Because my gums are kind of red and my teeth have plague on them, but I brush.

    • ANSWER:
      Many toothpastes that claim to whiten the teeth do that to some extent. However, make sure you use one with the ADA (American Dental Association) approval.

      It is better not to use these over a prolonged period. Most of these contain abrasives and gradually strip the surface layer of enamel that does not grow back. It looks whiter but if you overdo it, pretty soon you will end up having too smmoth, shiny and sensitive teeth.

      So, after using one tube of whitening toothpaste switch over to a fluoride toothpaste. Even better, alternate between these two everyday.

      I am not aware of any toothpaste making your gums pink. Gums can get darker because of pigmentation caused by genetical predisposition or cigarette smoking. One cannot change anything that one is destined to get because of heredity but one can stop smoking and see some improvement there.

      You should study a little bit more about teeth bleaching before you put too much emphasis on that. Hope the following article helps. Good luck !

    Why are my Boxers gums white?
    I was just wondering if anyone has had a solid white Boxer whos gums are pale or white? He is still full of engery and doesnt act sick at all. He eats good and (TMI) his poop looks normal too.       Someone has asked this question before and the answer was that it could be a sign of anemia. Could also mean dehydration. Going to the vet would be the best option!

      Have you whiten them? If not , you probobly have anemia. I would suggest going to a dentist ASAP especially since its been there for months

    My gums have turned white and bleed when I brush?
    My gums have always been slightly lighter around the tooth line, and when I looked again today, they’ve turned even lighter, to a milky white color.       you probably are brushing too hard, you only need to brush your gums very gently

      if it is ginigumnis then get some mouth wash and don’t brush your gums for a few days, use the mouthwash twice a day. And in a week you shouldn’t be bleeding much if at all.

      P.S some gums are just very sensitive so you might not have anything wrong at all – seek a dentist if bleeding persists

    when i use mouth wash around the edges where my teeth meet my gums it turns white?
    Why? its nothing i can wash away, its like my gums themselves turn white and actually feel a little bit harder than the rest of my gums, u know? like not my entire gum area just spots they turn white and hard, why is that?

      well maybe your gums are sensitive.
      you should ask your denist couse i am not a wiz about teeth but i do know most things about them becuse my aunt is and ortho and a dentist and she tells me everything there is to know about teeth and keeping them healthy along with the gums.
      maybe you are alergic to some kind of chemical that is in the mouthwash i would prefer going to your dentist. or dental hygentist. because he/she would know wat is best for your teeth and gums

    Why does Orasol Gel foam white on my gums?
    I have a loose baby tooth and the gum surrounding it appears to be red, swollen and infected. I’ve been using orasol gel on it as a temporary relief until I get to the dentist, When I put the orasol on that part of my gum… its almost as if it foams white. Kind of like when you use peroxide on a cut. It’s not foaming white on any other part of my gums. Why is this?

      does the product contain peroxide? if your gums are flaring up around the tooth, they are most likely bleeding even if you cant see it.

      My daughter got that too … it is just a cyst and it will go away … it was so hard that I thought it was a tooth, but she was too young to be teething (at 5 weeks). It has since gone away.

    I’m almost completely healed from having all four of my wisdom teeth extracted Thursday before last. I am also recently anemic.       If you are concerned you should call your dentist. When i got my wisdom teeth out my dentist was really good and said to call whenever i wanted if i had concerns or worries.

      But white gums, sounds like a nutrient deficiency,have you tried altering th kitten food? make ure you are feedig a variety of vitamins in the food and that he/she eats it all and doesnt leave bits behind he/she doesnt like, if the kitten is leaving bits of food behind, it could be they are not getting all the vitamins they need through food, or could simply be anemic (low iron) which would require medication daily.

    Listerine white strips made part of my gums white?
    I put in on as directed and with in a few moments I was in serious pain. Now the gums between my front teeth are white and stinging! If this normal?!

      Yes! I’ve used listerine strips before and this happened when I first put them on, but then it went away. Don’t fret. Some people find it’s best to use those strips only once a day and not twice. I also think if I use them right after brushing then it makes it worse. I’ve found better luck rinsing my mouth a lot and then applying the white strips. Don’t worry it goes away. My advice is to simply use them less frequently and maybe spread the whitening out over a long period of time.

    Is it a serious problem if you get white spots on your gums from using a teeth whitening agent?
    Over the last few days; i have been using a Dr Georges dental whitening system. I chose to use this product as it received many very favorable reviews, which i found whilst browsing the web. I have already noticed a difference, however it has made my gums sore, and i now have some white spots on them. Is this serious?
    And what should i do?

      It’s not that bad, but you should take a day off. It’s from the whitening gel getting in the gums. You gums should go back to pink in a day. Just try doing the whitening every other day.

    I used crest white strips now my gums are swollen, how do I get the swelling to go down?
    I’ve been using crest white strips classic for about a week and it works but my teeth and gums have been sensitive, I noticed my gums swelling and mostly worse on the top right part of my mouth. I haven’t used the strips in 24hrs but its still red and swollen. What should I do?

      Do not use the strips for several days. The swelling will go down on its own. The chemicals used in those strips will cause swelling of the gums and sensitivity in your teeth. Those warnings are on the packaging. Now that your teeth are probably whiter, you won’t need to use them as frequently. Maybe just do a touch up once a week, which won’t bother your teeth and gums nearly as much.

    why does 3 month olds gums turn white when touched?

      That is exactly why its going white. Over brushing. Just try not to brush too often, maybe 2-3 times a day because too much brushing can actually be bad for you rather than good. It also kills your enamel if you brush too much meaning your teeth will get sensitive. Also if you use peroxide or baking soda it can cause your gum to recede and also turn white as you said.

    What does it mean if your dog’s gums are a little white?
    Our dog’s gums are not as pink or reddish coloring. Its like a white coloring. It still has pink but not alot in it. Is this okay or is he sick possibly with a mouth type sickness?

    • ANSWER:
      If the gums of a dog turn pale, I believe it has to do with blood flow. Namely one big thing that can be associated with pale gums (you can also check the insides of their eyes) is bloating. Bloating is very serious, and can ultimately can lead to death very quickly. Of course, there can be other causes as well, so don’t jump out of your seat. There are many other symptoms of bloating, such as non productive vommiting, and a tightened stomach (should had a harder, leather like feel to it). My suggestion is if they are pale, and especially if they are very pale, and are regularly pink, take your dog to a vet ASAP. I work in a kennel, and we always immediately bring a dog to the vet if we notice pale gums.

    What is this white spot on my bottom gums?
    I have a white spot on my bottom gums.
    It doesn’t hurt when I put pressure on it but when I poke the spot it hurts.
    There’s no liquid coming out of it so it might not be a abscess.
    I started recently using a bunch of Listerine Advanced mouth wash before every time I brush.

      It sounds like it could be a canker sore (or aphthous ulcer). It’s hard for anyone to be able to tell you what it is based on the description of your symptoms, however canker sores are an extremely common oral lesion.

      If it looks similar to those pictures in appearance it might be a canker sore which usually takes around 7 days to heal. Try warm salt water rinses to help with any discomfort.

      If it doesn’t heal within a week go see your dentist. If you don’t think it looks like those pictures, then I can’t help you much more without being able to see it.

    I have white spots on my gums and i can feel them with my tongue. Also, hundreds of indented dots on my gums,wtf are they?

      There are a few reasons/causes for this. The most common is Candida Albicans, a fungus that everyone has & in a healthy body is usually kept under control by friendly bacteria.
      You sound a bit more complicated!
      Try salt water rinses (spit it out-don’t swallow it after swishing!!). Do this twice a day and in about three days you should start to notice a difference. Also brush your teeth at least twice a day and change your tooth brush weekly until it’s under control.
      If you don’t notice a difference in a week-it is time to see your dentist. As I mentioned, there may be more than one cause.

    I have a small white patch on my gums and it looks and feels like a pimble. Sometimes I pop it and white pus come out, its been there for a few months now, it comes and goes, it doesn’t hurt or it has not grown it is the size of a pimple and I can pop it. I has a root canal in the same spot as the pimple. Any ideas what it could be, should I be scared?

      I think you should go to your dentist to rule out any serious conditions. It may be that you are just having a reaction to the tooth paste you are using. But to get a definate diagnosis i would visit your dentist.

    My baby is 3 months could he be teething he is sucking his hands all the time and gums look white?
    We give him his pacifier and shortly after we feed him he puts his hands in his mouth CONSTANLY and is drooling. White gums and they look swollen. Doctor said could be and just to give him tylenol but it doesn’t help. He is very fussy most of the time so we thought it was colic now I am suspecting it’s teeth. I know all babies have a sucking reflex until like age 2 but this little guy seems like he is in pain. Any remdies out there?

      That does sound like he’s teething. I think he’s too small to give him frozen toys or frozen fruit in a safe feeder (which I did when my daughter was teething at 5 months old). What you could definitely do is get some hyland’s teething tablets. They sell those are walmart, are homeopathic and completely safe for your baby. You can give him one or two tablets.. they are a Godsend. I’ve heard that orajel and all those medicated baby soothers make the baby’s gums tougher, therefore, causing more pain or discomfort when the tooth comes in. With hyland’s there’s none of that.. like I said, it’s completely natural.
